The predictable response by the permanently offended feminazis over Joel Selwood's TikTok video is, as ever, bloody ridiculous.

I really didnt like the first night grand final. Aussie Rules doesnt need any fireworks, flashing lights, dancers or singers to provide an entertaining spectacle. Just hope the AFL listen to the fans (and many players) and revert to a traditional saturday arvo timeslot. I doubt they will though as money talks.

All of these proposed rule changes p^ss me off. All they need to do is simplify the holding the ball rule. If you are legally tackled and you don't legally dispose of the ball then you should get pinged. End of. Do that and straight away you will ease congestion.

And can we please go back to 20 min quarters. It really should be a no brainer.

The trade period was interesting. On paper the pies had a shocker whilst the big winners appear to be Geelong, Port, St.Kilda and the dogs.

So good to have the footy back.

Was great to see 50,000 fans at the home of footy. At a time when sport is still being played behind closed doors in Europe it's been a right ronnie to have thousands of fans cheering and booing and just making themselves heard at the footy. They really are the heart and soul of sporting competitions. Something i think players and administrators around the world had lost sight of. Hopefully fans won't be taken for granted again.

The season kicked off predictably enough with the reigning premiers (and dusty) too good for their opponents. On Friday, as expected, the dogs were too good for the pies. Match three saw the demons up against a young and improving Freo. The dees were expected to win and they did exactly that. Like nearly every tipster in the country i was sitting at 3 from 3 (though i dearly wish i had been wrong about Thursday nights winner). Then came two huge upsets. Last years runners up Geelong took on last years wooden spooners. Many were tipping a 40 plus point win for the visitors. I actually thought it would be closer than that. Adelaide have some good kids coming through who showed a bit late last season. I thought that at home they would be reasonably competitive though i still expected that Geelong would comfortably have their measure. Instead Adelaide lead throughout the entire match and withstood several Geelong fight backs. This was only game four of the season and it may well go down as the biggest upset of the year. The dons and hawks always looked like a bit of a toss up. In the second quarter however Essendon skipped away to a 40 pt lead and it looked like a case of how far bombers. At half time the margin was 39 pts. The third quarter saw Hawthorn completely dominate whilst the game see-sawed in the last. In a thrilling finish the hawks got up by 1 pt.

The final game saw Brisbane at home to Sydney. Despite finishing 3rd last in 2020 Sydney looked to have unearthed some really talent kids. The generous AFL zone also saw them draft some more impressive youngsters during the off season. Sydney were better than their win/loss record of 2020 suggested. They were in quite a few games but just couldn't close them out. With all of this in mind i thought they would be fairly competitive against the lions but i still thought Brissie would be too strong. Cue big upset number two. Sydney's ball movement by foot was very impressive and Brisbane seemed strangely subdued. In the end the 31 pt margin flattered the home side.

The early rounds are notoriously difficult to tip and this season is unlikely to be any different.

Not only was it nice to see tousands of fans at every match but it was also nice NOT to see players publically signalling their virtue and taking the knee in support of a race baiting, Marxist organisation that, among other things, wants to see the abolition of the traditional family and traditional police forces. Not things that are supported by most fans. What these self centred players don't appreciate is that when they run out to play a match they are representing the entire club and not themselves or their woke team mates. If you want to express your support for political organisations like BLM then do it in your own time and not when you are representing your club. Anyway, other than for one round last year our footballers at least haven't carried on with such rubbish.

Also really pleased that the AFL went back to 20 min quarters. That should always have been a no brainer. Also happy that they have reverted to a day GF.

The new rule governing the player on the mark is tolerable only if the umpires signal play on the moment the player with the ball goes off his line. So far this is not something the umps are doing consistently and it's very frustrating.

Not the highest quality or most entertaining game but the last quarter was exciting. For the first three quarters the pressure wasn't what you would expect from two teams with finals aspirations, and the lack of run and handball receives was surprising. That said, the pressure ramped up in the last quarter. Brisbane in the last 15 mins in particular showed a lack of composure but they hung in there. In the end a lovely hit up by Rich was marked by Zac Bailey who calmly went back and kicked the winner after the siren.

Been really impressed with the rapid improvement in Sydney's young list. Will be interesting to see how they go against Richmond.
