It's more than just the weather.

Power grid detachment and deregulation so power companies can cut corners in the name of "Cheap energy"
Politicizing - blaming "Green Energy" wind turbines - and the Gov changing his tune depending on the audience for the power grid failures.
Cruz mocking California over the summer about rolling blackouts "When run by a Dem"
What does he say now?
He doesn't - he ran a way to Cancun - after just a few months ago criticizing Austin mayor (presumably Dem) for going to a wedding in MX in December.

Meanwhile, people without power and water or their homes are getting wrecked and people are dying.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -
Maybe it's humans, maybe it's a natural cycle, maybe it's both amplifying each other.(my personal belief)
Maybe we can reverse it, maybe not ...(I have doubts)

but whatever the case WE NEED TO PREPARE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
Our infrastructure is old and crumbling and weather extremes are just going to break it down more and expose the weaknesses.

Anybody see the story about the glacier that broke off in India and went downstream smashing a dam?

WE NEED TO PREPARE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE

1. Being prepared doesn't hurt. I was always prepared for Hurricanes when I lived in So. Florida, and now I'm ready for wild fires in California.

2. And in terms of human preparedness, it actually would likely over time result in less pollution... a win even if climate change turned out to be either false or something that "we" could not stop/reverse.

3. And yes, it is "climate change". The term "global warming" while it appears to be accurate, was in fact an unfortunate term that can be misleading to the willfully ignorant.

As to Texas... I wonder why Biden isn't telling Texan's to quit complaining and rake (or shovel) away the snow.

He doesn't have to. The Tex asses more or less already said that.

"Watch this - Hold my steer"

Texas’ inability to provide uninterrupted utility service to millions of residents is partly due to the state’s decision to operate its own power grid in an effort to avoid federal regulation.

How much?

Take a walk down memory lane. In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy hammered New York and New Jersey. As the north-east reeled, Texas Republicans stood back, treating the region as if it were another country. As if the civil war had not ended.

After the turn of the year, Cruz, his fellow senator John Cornyn and 23 of two-dozen Texas Republicans in the House gave a thumbs down to Sandy aid.

That is one of the main things our experiment with democracy and capitalism is supposed to figure out.

But you have no opinion on it.

Ok.

Republicans are the biggest hypocrites ever.

I definitely have an opinion on it, but my saying "some industries need to be regulated" is a very broad statement. The problem comes when people with big new ideas come along and try to change things that have been proven over time to work. It's not that change is necessarily bad. It is bad if the replacement laws are ones that have been already proven not to work.

The example I always go back to is the deregulation of the banking industry with the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act. It caused the 2008 market crash.

The question is, was it it stupidity, greed or intentional? I believe the answer is all three. Manipulative people bent on destroying capitalism purposefully misled the stupid and the greedy to sabotage their own system. They achieved it through government.

In the case of utilities it has not before now been possible to allow competition into the game. There can only be one sewer system obviously, so the municipalities operate them. Electrical power has traditionally been the same.

What the Texans did was say if company X puts an amount of power into the grid and company Y puts another amount of power into the grid, why can't individuals buy their power from the company of their choosing? It should allow for competition in the power business, providing cheaper and potentially cleaner power. The latter based on the idea that the citizenry would be more apt to buy electricity from a green company.

Well, as with anything that looks good on paper, this hasn't worked out. I wouldn't call this an intentional manipulation. I would call it an experiment. It failed in a stressed situation (weather). It appears there is some disparity in service based on income level.

I think this winter is going to cause an alteration in the way power is handled in Texas in the future, possibly even an abandonment of the current system.

Will abandonment hinder the ability of green companies to sell power? Right now in most states that is the choice of the government. The government does not always represent the best interest of the citizens or the environment. In some states green energy is being utilized but not in all.

I have a problem with this idea of little nuclear power plants being a green alternative. It's dangerous. We can't even store the nuclear waste we have safely.

And so the saga continues.....

Definitely Biden's fault... no doubt about it.

We have something like that here in Ohio for Electric and Gas. Only it seems to be handled competitively through 3rd parties.

"NOPEC (Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council) is a non-profit that buys utilities in bulk to help lower customers’ utility bills."

That's interesting, I'm going to read up on it. How are NOPEC's activities monitored?
