Is it still a thing Americans believe in, or has its importance faded? Will anyone in the GOP besides the usual dissenters (Romney, Sasse, Collins, Murkowski) uphold what our forefathers held dear? Will anyone be the Joseph Welch in this and stop the madness before this unprecedented subversive assault on our vote, and freedom, reaches code red?

In many ways I think politics/government is a necessary evil. I think the "average joe" will always want some sort of voice in electing their representatives.

Sadly, suspicion and even resentment against those who think differently seems to be gaining pace. Many want a voice, want to be heard, yet feel some sort of need to silence any opposition.

It all seems evidence of a general malaise. We really do need to at least try to listen to each other. Alas, at my age, in part, I feel more inclined to throw in the towel.

Every now and then I like to do a Factory Reset on my PC, tablet or phone because it gets sluggish, dodgy, and sometimes unwieldly.

In general yes, but I think there is a large bunch that is just to stubborn to accept their world views are not right.

Unfortunately, there is a potential for violence and/or abuse. Or they’d probably get told f*** your feelings like people were told back in 2016.

Like no one was concerned someone knitting a pussy hat was going to get a little stabby with the needles quite in the same way armed people have been showing up to vote counting places and talking to various Secretaries of State.

The GOP wants a one party representative democracy with as little accountability as possible.

Of course McConnell wants the power to reside with himself.

Contrary to what many Americans seem to think, presidents do not make legislation. That resides with the Congress. With a GOP controlled Senate, Moscow Mitch can decide what legislation goes to vote and what does not.

A Democrat H.R. will easily get much (if not most) of the blame for any legislation not getting passed.

With a dunce like Trump, any legislation going for presidential signature will move forward. With Trump the presidential veto is nearly an empty threat.

So, if there was only the GOP single party system the Senate Majority leader would ultimately control the country.

It's all about the power.

It's actually a very brilliant idea. Dupe the American people into thinking that they are a democracy when ultimately their votes would be nearly meaningless.

The form of government in the US is supposed to resemble democracy but it really can't be a pure democracy.

Again, to get what you're asking, they'd have to hold a Constitutional Convention and streamline a bunch of stuff.

We should all be incredibly grateful that it isn't a thing.

You guys certainly have infatuated yourselves with the electoral college haven’t you? Toying with it, abusing it, subverting it...

Of course I’d love for a Constitutional Convention to do away with it, as I’d love to return to the intention our founding fathers had with it in ensuring the voice of the people is recognized and honored.

So should Trump continue his intent of going against this voice of democracy?

Woah . . . . .

I feel flattered you like lump with the deciders. I fill out a ballot once every four years is all.

But about Trump:

Mr Biden will be sworn in sometime next year--probably on schedule. He's a New York brawler and talks bs now and again. Not trashing him really but he's fighting to the last until he can't fight no more. If the courts don't side with him inside the time constraints, it's a wrap and the country moves on. Done.

Then Uncle Joe gets propped up for however many months he survives and he'll govern by executive order just like Trump just like Obama.

So you've already got the RBG dirt cleaned off your dancing shoes and looking forward to the next?

Wooden Pinocchio gets tricked from his lessons and is captured by the circus. His father is swallowed by a giant fish and dragged unto the depths. Pinocchio is dishonest and foolish and his actions cost the happiness of those who care for him including the cricket.

I wish they made a version where he buries his father, just as a way to close the loop.

Death can come for any of us at any moment. Joe could outlive us all. If he doesn't I shouldn't be surprised. Nothing should surprise me but it does on occasion. I couldn't have imagined the depths this country would go to ensure he would be POTUS 46.

Poor talking cricket... in the original story he makes his cameo appearance in Chapter 4... and is promptly killed by Pinocchio.

Of course in the movie of Disney fame Geppetto is swallowed by a whale not a fish, sort of the opposite of Jonah who was swallowed by a “great fish". In the original story (of Pinnochio not Jonah) the father was actually swallowed by a The Terrible Dogfish (shark... with asthma).

Anyway, since by the end of the story Pinnochio is a real boy we can be certain that he one day buried his father.

Yes, I couldn't agree more... I couldn't have imagined the depths some republicans would go to lie and claim that 46 wasn't elected when clearly he fairly and honestly was.

Crazy Americans.

Not all GOPers lied and blindly defended trump. Plenty remained completely silent.
