Would it be a good idea to program AI to feel emotion?

AI spelling the end of the human race? I still fail to understand.

If AI were self-aware and self-preserving, And they saw humans as a threat, they would eliminate the threat.

Maybe starting out as an individual-by-individual threat elimination, but they might jump to the conclusion that All humans will eventually be a threat.

Hey! That sounds like a good basis for a movie!!

Maybe they will just study and dissect us. Kind of like humans do with monkeys and other intelligent life. Or maybe keep us as pets like we do Rats which are also quite intelligent,

For an "intelligent" species, humans are quite cruel to other supposed "intelligent" species.

Wittgenstein saw the human being as a living creature in the stream of life. "For it is human beings, not minds, who perceive and think, have desires and act, feel joy and sorrow."

I really fail to understand any preoccupation with AI.

Well personally I find it fascinating. I also find the current advance of technology fascinating. I remember when I was a kid with a C64 then an Amiga. Now I can purchase an NVIDIA Jetson Nano for a hell of a lot cheaper and start running my own Machine Learning experiments. Im a geeky techie at heart, so yeah I love that kind of thing.

Quote:

Wittgenstein I am told swerved to avoid worms in the road when cycling. He published his Tractatus immediately after serving in WWI, having seen first hand the slaughter in the trenches. Then he literally signed away his fortune (millions) to his siblings, living the rest of his life from his earnings as a schoolteacher.

What REALLY matters in life cannot be expressed in words. It must be shown and lived.

AI is like fire, fascinating and potentially dangerous. Some people say we are playing at being god, personally I believe it will be more akin to the story if Icarus.

Why do you not believe AI can be dangerous?

Also on the theme of God, lets say we create life. Should we be able to go old testament god on the life we create, if it goes wrong and seeks forbidden knowledge. If it eats the apple, for want of a metaphor?

In 70's, the movie called " the Forbit project " which when one step farther than hal.usa build a super computer, which usa gave it full power to defence itself not other countries the
threats, as well as usa.

by the usa figure it, it took over everything. ( this movie is prequel to " wargames ". )
so the computer couldn't be
stop.

usa knew russia build the same machine. both countries though
that one control the other in theory.

at the end of the movie, the plan backfired. both machines merged into one big threat.

Way back, on a Commodore 64, I taught myself simple programming. Wrote a shooting game, a spider in a maze game, a General Election game. I stumbled eventually on a role playing game, losing the plot and the memory capacity (the '64, not mine!)

But I lack interest now. I like popular science books but as I've said, AI I don't find particularly unteresting. I find my own mind "interesting" and it gives me enough to deal with. I find day to day living enough without giving much thought to hypothetical possibilities.

Again, as said, I don't really think AI as an emotion charged reality is even a possibility. I may be wrong.

I am a non-theist.

in " the twilight zone, " in own image ", about a scientist create a android of himself.

the scientist use his creation to improve himself to him make better himself. in time, his creation the best of him. in time, the scientist got jealous of him. because of the scientist's girlfriend like the new improve scientist.

the final conflict came between the scientist and the creation. the creation kills the scientist, and the creation and the girlfriend spend lives together forever.

I've been trying to find an article on this project I read about. A researcher at Los Alamos National Labs was building robots. They didn't really have programming. What they had was camera for eyes, small motor for motion and solar panels to collect energy. The circuitry was built in some sort of hexagonal matrix to mimic biologic nervous systems. The little robots would, when placed in a dark part of the room move to a place where the sunlight was entering through a window.

I find the daraks from Dr. who, were smarter than the cylons.

the cybermen from Dr
who and the borgs from star trek are the best examples of al in tv and movies.

To go back to an old thread of mine. It looks like there is a shift happening in AI from Digital to Analog (the cycle continues) due to constraints of microchip technology (software used to be the issue, now it is our limited hardware advancement).

This will change things I would imagine. In a digital system, I would theorise things like emotions would be controlled via some sort of FSM (Finite State Machine).

However, with analog, I suppose you would have two extremes and the state/emotion of an AI, would fall somewhere between those.

Interesting times ahead.
