I have read many works of literature by many authors, all of whom penned their own works. Now, for the first time, I am in the process of reading a ghost written piece of fiction. Incomparable, by Brie and Nikki Bella is, by their own admission, something they wrote with the aid of a ghost writer. To what extent their work is their own, I don't know. At times I can see them, others not.

A part of me wants to believe this is not a dishonest act on their behalf. I'd like for us to explore the possibility that they didn't present a falsehood that's more the product of another writer's imagination. I respect both these women, but at the moment, I'm at a crossroads. Do I believe that what they wrote is them, communicating through words that their ghost writer put down for them due to their admitedly limited vocabularies and poor grammar, or were they using their ghost writer to imidate them? If anyone knows them personally, please reply here to help put an end to my anxiety.

Are Brie and Nikki regular authors?
Was this their first ghost writing work?
Is the ghost writer also a known author?

Maybe it's a way of trying to break free of their limitation.

I know I muse over ideas of stories, but know I have no chance in hell to make anything of it because I don't have that way with words.
(aside from the fact that it take way more than an idea over some idle time)

No, this is their first book.

As far as I know it is their first ghost written work.

I don't know who the ghost writer is.

In this interview About their book they mention sitting down with their ghost writer. What does this mean? It's something to go on. I found another site that said we needed a ghostwriter to check our words were spelled right and stuff, but I couldn't find the actual quote on the web page, except in the comments section, which appear to have been copied from somewhere else, if that's really what Brianna and Nicole said.

ghost writer helped the writer for some reason(s) can't write the book.

a lot of famous writers will use a false name to start their writing career.

usually, the writer will give credit to the ghost writer in the book. so they work together as a team.

In that case the ghostwriters usually do interviews and present the story in the “voice” of the person.

It’s very common in non-fiction. People have ideas for books, but not necessarily the time or writing skills to get it done so the hire a ghost writer to do a lot of the “busy work”. Depending on the person this can be handing them an outline and they provide the finished work or the author Siri’s in a room and “tells” the story and the ghost writer records, transcribes it and added appropriate punctuation and grammar edits.
This makes it possible to get stories from people that are not as literate as others, or have other language or time barriers.

I don’t know those people, but know others that have both written their own non fiction and used ghostbusters.
Some fiction uses essentially ghost writers, but that is the more formula novels, like romances, westerns, and things that’s it’s basically the same story with some small differences. That’s how they all get published so fast. It’s a whole industry.

So, is what I'm reading a polished version of what Nicole and Brianna spoke aloud? Did they write anything? I can't tell because sometimes I feel them in the text, sometimes not. I understand what you're saying and in the context of this book, both authors have stated they have poor spelling and their grammar isn't very good. In light of that, who am I truly reading?

Who knows, it has to be their story though. Ghost writer just help with the technicalities of writing. Not everyone can do it very well. A lot of famous/celebrities use them. Most do, unless they have writing skills

It’s really not that different than hiring another professional to help you complete a project.

Deleted on the grounds that it was a stupid comment, not thought through and I can't imagine what possessed me to write it in the first place.

(now you're intrigued to know what it said, eh..?)

That's never stopped me before.

Maybe some "nasty" gibe at various celebrities who now have "author" added to their CV's?

Anyway, I have this great idea of a group of guys and gals getting caught up in the Napoleonic Wars. Another about a sea captain who becomes obsessed with this giant whale that ripped his leg off.....All I need is.......

I've read a few books by those who could be called "celebrities". I have never experienced any degree of "anxiety" concerning what could be called "authenticity". "Life" by Keith Richards, "Born To Run" by Bruce Springsteen for instance. I'm told the former was partly ghost written, while the latter was all Bruce's own work. But who knows?

The self-knowledge and honesty of the people surely comes into it, this as far as seeking to know the "real" person/s. This irrespective of being ghost written or not or at whatever level. Do we ever truly know another?

Whatever, given they have explained the circumstances, I can't see where dishonesty comes into it as far as authorship is concerned.

Just read it and enjoy it. I try not to "judge" the human being.

I like the idea of the obsessed, one-legged sea captain going after the giant whale (post #11). It has potential.

I see now that Conflict's OP was of a work of fiction, not non-fiction.
