I agree that it could .
I don't think we'll see it in our lifetime.

There are plenty of other caveats in that statement.
What does "full artificial intelligence" mean?

I would be more concerned about artificial life - with the drive, means and intelligence to survive and reproduce

I don't really know much about the current state of progress as far as the creation of AI. Nor do I really understand it as some sort of possibility of replacing us, superseding us, making us redundant.

Is this some sort of computer hardware, where the software has advanced beyond what we can now achieve? If so, could we not dismantle it once created. Put it back together and it regains its emotions? In what way could it potentially replace us?

Take apart a human being and they are dead!

Really, I cannot make sense of it.

If we are talking about a created robot that moves about and thinks and feels just as we do then possibly, being like us, war between us would in all probability ensue and so on and so on.....

1. Would it be a good idea to program AI to feel emotion?

> No. Bad idea. We humans can't even handle our own emotions. We start trying to give AI emotions, were going to end up with a massive computer system with the personality of Donald Trump.

2. "The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race." Stephen Hawking

> I guess I disagree, but mostly because I don't think that it will ever be possible to truly program emotions into AI.

I agree it would be a bad idea. Having said it, you know damn well an egghead somewhere will do exactly that.

curiousity kill the cat.

if a computer ever doubt itself, start questioning itself, why i exist. then, al would be curious about emotions, if computer watch or use it's scanners to watch humans express themselves, and ask itself and the creator: why i can i?

maybe human emotions or some of them should program into computers.

also technology in the wrong hand in computer might not be a good thing.

like westworld and 2001: a space odyssey

it would interesting if a computer sent back an android back in time to change the timeline. interesting part - what a computer choose alter the timeline, what event in time, it would choose?

How are we defining emotion?

I've been noodling on this a bit for this thread.

I think emotion interferes with Logic.
Logic is used in conjunction with intelligence (information) to make decisions.

So "Intelligence" would not necessarily be diminished by emotion, but decisions
could.

Or is Intelligence the manifestation of using information logically??

I like to fall back to the model DIKW

Data -> Information -> Knowledge -> Wisdom.

I suppose "True AI" would make that jump from Knowledge to Wisdom

My own noodling made me think again of some words of Thomas Merton, from his book "Raids on the Unspeakable".

There is, above the consistent and logical world of justice, an inconsistent illogical world where nothing "hangs together," where justice no longer damns each to their own darkness. This inconsistent world is the realm of mercy.

I think logic interferes with quite a lot.
