A friend recently tole me, "Watch. Right after the U.S. 2020 election, COVID-19 is going to just vanish."

I said, "You realize that COVID-19 isn't just hitting the USA, right? It is worldwide."

He said,

So I continued, "No. COVID-19 isn't going to "go away". But, at some point in the next 12 months (give or take a few months) Americans are going to throw in the towel and ignore it. The related deaths will be the new normal and the media will stop covering the story."

He relied,

I replied,

just saying on election day, coravirius disappear, because new fall virus take over instead.

like saying coronavirus want bozo to win, that make no sense. like coronavirus has conscience. i did might my job destroying bozo's last year in office. i fail so, let new boy in town destroy bozo's last first couple years in office has left.

From the BBC:-

There is a recognition within government the public is tiring of the battle against coronavirus.

Estimates suggest only one in five people is self-isolating fully when asked.

And you need only to listen to government adviser Prof Robert Dingwall to realise the problem ministers are facing.

Last week, he warned the public was "just going through the motions" and had become "comfortable" with the idea that thousands would die just as thousands died with flu each year.

So, perhaps much like Brexit last year when Parliament became gridlocked. Irrespective of the fact that the future of the UK for generations to come was at stake, the great British public just wanted it "over". Thus the Tory slogans of "Get Brexit Done" and the "Over Ready Deal" found a willing audience.

Now, with Covid, we are "tired of the fight". Six whole months have taken their toll.

"Get Covid Done" and a "Coffin Ready Winter" await.

In another context, I think of the attention span of the average goldfish.

No wonder so many seem to glorify the "Spirit of the Blitz". Fantasy is always a temptation.

"Humankind cannot bear very much reality.” (T. S. Eliot, line from Four Quartets)

Think how we feel through "election season" which I think is growing faster than "Fire Season" in California.

yep one of my friends just declaired she was just over COVID in august. not over it as in she got sick and better, as in its not a thing anymore and people just need to get back to normal.

and seems weird when I mentions that I'm still taking precautions (like not shopping much)or working from home. like im the crazy one.

I mean I might be the crazy one, but really you can't blame the institution that runs the only level one truama center in the state, for at least trying to stay on top of the situation and not let it become a trumpsterf***.

Our state is also, probably one of the most cautious in the nation, we are a poor state in some senses, and not necessarily prepared with money and supplies like NY and CA so its a matter of doing the best we can with what we have. We also still have parts of the state where communities are without running water in their homes, so that fact that our transmission levels and deaths are so low compared to our neighbors with similar issues (I'm looking at you AZ,) says a lot about the response.

.. I just realized, this mask thing could be another commercial opportunity.

Not just for buying/selling, but for advertising...

The bungling buffoon AKA Boris Johnson, AKA Donald Trump Lite, after admitting last week that the Governments own rules were confusing, yesterday explained the new rules to the nation. But got them wrong. So it seems that he has confused himself. Nevertheless, large fines are threatened should anyone break the rules that even our PM himself does not understand.

Time to relax and take stock once again, with coffee and Costa's.

Over here in the UK we are being treated to the political Party Conference Season. "Virtual" this year due to the virus. The Tories now. Attendees I presume fit a Virtual Reality Viser to their heads and then convince themselves that they are listening to a competent politician when Boris opens his mouth.

His speech was reported as "uplifting" by one Tabloid, the dear old Daily Express, while another, the left wing Daily Mirror, headlined "Wind Bag". Take your pick.

Boris spoke of "finding the hero inside myself", a reference to some lyrics by M People. Last year he was inspired by The Clash. (Boris then, I presume, disappeared up his own backside)

Well, enough of Boris. On BBC Breakfast TV the Government Coronavirus spokesperson was Liz Truss, our Trade Minister. Where was Matt Handcock, the Health Minister, we ask. No doubt busy sorting out the latest fiasco of our world beating Test and Trace System. 15,000 positive texts have slipped through the net, leaving a further 50,000 people untraced. This, apparently, a glitch on an Excel spreadsheet! Anyway, Matt was last seen attempting to download Microsoft Office onto his Commodore 64, this before heading to Barnard Castle for a routine eye test.

Well, if Boris is looking for a hero, why look any further than the balcony of the White House where the Man of Steel posed yesterday. Although having ghost written a few books himself, Donald is now the holder of true knowledge, gleaned from first hand experience. There is nothing to fear from the Virus! No longer a hoax, simply benign! As 210,000 american citizens would say:- "Oh death where is thy sting?" I wonder how much many of said 210,000 would give for "Four More Years"?

Well, that's it.

The UK holds its breath, waiting for Boris Johnson to speak tonight of the latest measures to be enforced to counter the second wave of Covid19.

(Well, not me, I don't listen to a word he says....... )

People wait to find out what further "world beating" ideas the Government of Boris Johnson will anounce. Having achieved the fifth highest mortality rate in the world and the biggest economic downturn of the european nations, he looks for further conquests.

Rumours of a "Three Tier System". Each area will be told the tier it is on, the severity of the lockdown. It is rather strange at the moment that areas of very high infection rates, but within the boundaries of sitting Ministers of the Government, are in fact avoiding the current restrictions. Well, I say "strange" but fairly predictable. Bolton, with an infection rate of 26.78, in stringent lockdown. Newark and Sherwood, infection rate 182.16 (sic) avoiding such measures. Sitting MP a Tory Minister, the Tories the "Party of all the People" who according to a spokesperson yesterday "would NEVER do anything that treated any one area of the UK different from any other." No indeed.

And so the story goes on. Tragic in many ways.

The sad thing is when looking at history, at least for the past few years in the UK, no matter the stupidity, the carnage, the ignorance, the lies.......the Tory Party will in all likelihood still emerge smelling of roses.

For anyone interested, a link to an article in the UK Guardian newspaper. It concerns privatisation, the erosion of the NHS by Tory dogma, resulting in the inefficiency that is now costing lives.

The voting thread is leaning into a corona thread, so I'll steer my comment back to here:

I wonder, if/when a vaccine becomes available, if the GOPers will try to suppress it's distribution like they do for abortion clinics and voting.

... Only "Gov't Approved" distribution points.
One per state.
Open on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3:00pm

And being so new, it may be still considered "experimental", and not covered by insurance.

That would be "Trumpdon'tCare".

Nah the generals are going to distribute it. It’s just going to processed into bullets or dart tips, and they can “vaccinate” an entire crowd at once.

It can also double as active shooter training in schools, give an all around authentic experience and officially arm the teachers.

And probably stop real school shootings as those tend to be lone wolf anti-government. Anti vaxers anyway, so they would avoid a teacher with a vaccine gun, you know that’s just going to give them the devil’s microchip anyway.
