Having been moved on in Costa's by occupying the wrong seat, I decided to express my outrage by popping into Starbuck's (despite their policy of paying as little UK tax as "legally" possible) So for me it is now BOTH Costa's AND Starbucks. There was no queue......well, until I approached the counter and was accosted by an ardent "Test and Tracer" employee who asked me to scan some squiggle into my mobile phone so I could be traced if this particular Starbucks became a Covid hotspot. I did not have my mobile phone on me (shock horror) so he lent me his. Anyway, by the time all this was done I was now about fourth in the queue. I eventually ordered my drink and hey presto my credit card tap was refused, a pin number demanded. I think then some instant password was texted to my mobile phone which of course I did not have on me. After some confusion I used my debit card. Another few minutes and I collected my drink, my name "Bery" (!) scrawled on the side. Well, there you go. Maybe I'll switch back to EITHER/OR and make it Costa's.

Moving on.......... "Who needs to be competitive when infinite variety is available"

A good little quote, found on Facebook, posted by an old schoolmate of mine who I still see occasionally at various reunions and suchlike.

It seems to gel with my faith in the infinite potential of Reality-as-is.

Where would "either/or" fit into this?

Either THIS belief or THAT belief? With the "correct" belief rewarded eternally, the false (i.e. ANYTHING else) cast into the Lake of Fire. No search for empathy or common ground. Why bother when all else but our very own "truth" will be cast aside, our own embedded in Eternity.

Makes me think of a riddle:

Two doors, unmarked, one is Life, the other Death
Two men in front of the doors. One always lies, the other always tells the truth, but you don't know who is who.

You have one question to ask one person.

What would you do to choose the correct door?

But it's not a viable business plan.

Fast food joints have been cutting back their menus and options lately.

Awhile back I was at another fast-food joint and for some reason their credit-card system went down, and they could only accept cash. That shortened the line considerably.

.. this was before all that mobile-pay stuff came about - which, I'm sure would have been in dire straights as well.

I think it's something about asking one guy to tell you what door the other guy would point to.

But logic has never been my strong point.....

It's becoming ridiculous. Just to check my current Credit Card situation, balance or whatever, I need to put in my email, then a changing random 4 letters of a ten letter password, then a changing random three numbers of a six digit number. On tip of this, often now a passcode lasting just 5 minutes is sent to my mobile phone which I then have to input.

Ask what the Other guy would say, and do the opposite.

If you ask the liar he would lie about the truther's (?) answer = wrong door
If you ask the truther he would give you the answer of the liar = wrong door

starbucks and other coffee or whatever, you should self-service machines that service or robots as cashiers. humans will fill up the machines and welcome customers. the companies would survive, but human contacts will be safety this crisis or future crisis.

Apparently "both/and" is the new jargon of the budding executive.

When working we minnions would mock the Chiefs when they all came back from the latest seminar (aka "Expense Account Freebie" ) as they gave voice to the latest soundbite fed to them by the Career Coach.

We had "pro-active" once, a real good one.

Anyway, this was Marconi's, so none of us were pro-active enough.

Yeah, they'd have the buzzword or soundbite, but seldom give us the tools, resources or authority to put it in practice.
