In opting out, the following announced:-

A government spokesperson said: “The UK is committed to the European convention on human rights and to protecting human rights and championing them at home and abroad, but we believe that this does not require an additional binding international legal commitment.

“How the UK gives effect to its longstanding strong human rights protections is a matter for the UK as an autonomous country. In the same way, it’s a matter for the EU and its member states to give effect to their own human rights protections according to their own legal orders.”

Is this a version of Newspeak?

(Remember, Boris Johnson has said that the UK must be able to speed up deportations of asylum seekers, while his current band of Right Wing Tories have long had the The Human Rights Act, passed by the Labour government in 1998, which incorporates convention rights into British law, in their sights)

Of Course they get all offensive if you point that out and can’t actually come up with another reason other than getting rid oof the different people makes them feel better. Same old s***.

A simple declaration of true intent doesn't wind me up (well, not much..... ) but all the guff that seeks to retain some degree of integrity and even some claim to the moral high ground I find increasingly repugnant.

Bout time we stopped wasting taxpayer money on sending people to these BS conventions.

How about lower the cost of a pint of bitter and call it a day.

Hiya Crusty, at least you are not seeking the moral highground.
