He just didn't want to worry us....

"Dad... is the house burning down around us? Should we leave... or at least turn on the emergency sprinkler system and call 911?"

"No dear... that isn't smoke from a fire... its fake smoke... nothing at all to worry about... now go over there and rest your head on my friend Jeffrey's lap."

heard on almost the same fox news about the same fire in a different way:

mommy, mommy,
daddy on fire!
quick the marshmallows!

It was basically this. Only English with the occasional Spanish swears, and my Dad. And I was hosting, so you’d think it was easier but ... getting my parents to aim the camera properly! lol

In another world (+12 years ago) I would have made an effort to meet up with a relative that came in from out of state (Florida, no less).... But recently, because of the aggressive blindness (social media - politically speaking) I was conveniently too busy.

So... a bit off topic, but hey... it's what I do... and your video makes it somewhat apropos...

I've started running again. Used to do various distances (my favorite was a 6 or 10 mile not involving completion... but I've gone farther)...

Anyway, COVID-19 was a minor issue (not big on running in a mask)... then we (in California) just had temperatures as high as 117 F (I like the heat but don't run in anything above 94 F...)... then the wildfires kicked in (they aren't near us, but we've had smoke for days).... today (this morning) was pleasant.... cool... good air quality... I was ready to go out... then while making coffee I dropped a napkin, bent to pick it up and pulled a muscle in my back... f***! ... then I read the news (and watched a video) about Trump (the whole "I knew it was bad" thing).... f***! again... then the rest of the day happened in discomfort... 5:00 PM came around and I made myself a prickly pear margarita...

My back still hurts.

Trump is still a jackass.

COVID-19 is still here.

But for the moment I don't give a s*** any more.

Meanwhile, over in the UK.......

Boris Johnson addresses the nation and announces that gatherings of more than six, inside or out, are banned. "If you do so you will be breaking the law"

Over in the Houses of Parliament, one of his ministers announces/admits that the new Brexit Bill will be breaking international law.

Further.....

A quick scan of the daily newspapers tell us that Christmas could be "off" this year. While the turkeys celebrate, many humans despair. One paper cries out from it's headlines that Christmas COULD be saved by more Testing! Alas, many seeking tests over here are told the nearest site is over 100 miles away. Again, you should only "seek a test if you show symtoms" (Govt guidelines) and we are also told that Covid19 is being spread now more by the young........who often show no symtoms.

Over in his tent, or wherever he is, Boris Johnson admits that previous Government guidelines and rules have been "confusing", while also announcing that bears sh*t in the woods.

Yes, the us stupidity is snatching all the press

I hear the second wave is beginning across Europe and it seems like the official response is oh well.

India’s a huge mess, but also not getting press

Seems like the Australians are behaving themselves though.
I’ve heard of little isolated spikes, but they react quickly. Same with New Zealand. Their overall numbers of deaths and cases are the lowest.

As the Rule of Six comes in in the UK (not to be confused with Social Bubbles) reassurance was given by the Government that Grouse Shooting in groups of 29 is still allowed.

As one picture is worth a thousand words, this is WHY despite the Government introducing the Rule Of Six (fines if the rule is broken) groups of well over six are allowed for Grouse Shooting

From the BBC:-

There is a recognition within government the public is tiring of the battle against coronavirus.

Estimates suggest only one in five people is self-isolating fully when asked.

And you need only to listen to government adviser Prof Robert Dingwall to realise the problem ministers are facing.

Last week, he warned the public was "just going through the motions" and had become "comfortable" with the idea that thousands would die just as thousands died with flu each year.

So, perhaps much like Brexit last year when Parliament became gridlocked. Irrespective of the fact that the future of the UK for generations to come was at stake, the great British public just wanted it "over". Thus the Tory slogans of "Get Brexit Done" and the "Over Ready Deal" found a willing audience.

Now, with Covid, we are "tired of the fight". Six whole months have taken their toll.

"Get Covid Done" and a "Coffin Ready Winter" await.

In another context, I think of the attention span of the average goldfish.

No wonder so many seem to glorify the "Spirit of the Blitz". Fantasy is always a temptation.

"Humankind cannot bear very much reality.” (T. S. Eliot, line from Four Quartets)

A friend recently tole me, "Watch. Right after the U.S. 2020 election, COVID-19 is going to just vanish."

I said, "You realize that COVID-19 isn't just hitting the USA, right? It is worldwide."

He said,

So I continued, "No. COVID-19 isn't going to "go away". But, at some point in the next 12 months (give or take a few months) Americans are going to throw in the towel and ignore it. The related deaths will be the new normal and the media will stop covering the story."

He relied,
