Just an open thread on how it is affecting various parts of the economy.

From reduced clients at daycares and restaurants, to the postponement of major college football conferences.

Disney reduced its hours even more. Did they reduce (or refund) ticket prices?

When a local amusement park opened earlier in the year (Cedar Point) it started out as pass-holders only. So No Crowds!! It must have been wonderful. What if it were always like this?!? A (perception) of scarcity of resources...

If you're not bringing in as many customers, most of your other bills don't go down.

If you raise prices, you discourage more customers. So all new equations have to be figured out to run a business.

But hey, that was rambling, so throw in whatever you want

So more on the amusement park thing.
What if it were always like that. Only "x" number of season passholders, and then a scheduled pre-reserve day tickets for "us commoners". No more walk up and purchase day-of.

It would surely improve the experience if they do limit customers. I've always been discouraged to pay $100 just to wait in line for 5 of the 8 hours you are there. (this was before the fast-pa$$ came into play)

So it would make it more desirable, more scarce, raise prices ... etc.

I'm sure the executive bean-counters are grinding away at new graphs and charts.

i been awhile to starbucks, since corona hit starbucks stop for awhile. where i live about mile away, there is a starbucks, is behind a bus stop, i have wait for a bus. if i do talk myself, i get black ice tea, or that moco something with whip cream. just like the whip cream. not cold brew. i tried once, yuggh, too much coffee.

in late may and early june, they reopen the places, the place near the bus stop. it start slowly, people went to their door, and then they ordered, and when back to the their car and drank their coffee. last two to three weeks, this starbucks letting going in the place and sit in it.

i am not a big fan of going fast food places in general, i seen that restaurants letting people hanging out in them.

st. louis county, where i live now, restricted business down 50% to 25% amount of people coming in the business.

i think stupid that major stores are more afraid of ask people to wear masks, because their threat of their employees. i think the stores should stay close, if they have force customers to wear masks.

To be honest, I say we’re in the beginning of a huge economic crash. Maybe bigger than the Great Depression, people just don’t realize it yet.

Seriously, the economy is f***ed, and any attempt to “fix” it with stimulus programs is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.

Disney is loosing millions a day, from parks, stores, movies, their entire entertainment empire.

Anything travel related is taking a huge hit.

Restaurants, if they can’t pivot with the opening/closing take out/ patio seating restrictions they are taking hits too. Same for waitstaff and bartenders.

Retail, in food and home improvement stores might be ok, if they can keep up with things like online ordering/pickup delivery. Smaller mom and pop stores are struggling

Amazon will be fine. Walmart probably will be fine. Target maybe too. If they can get their groceries and pickup services better.

It’s going to be weird. I think the internet is going to make things different than during the Great Depression, but I’m not exactly sure how. It has potential to equalize some stuff, but yet be a barrier if people can’t get computers or online access.

Free internet in the library is one of the first things to shut down world wide. We want people to get there s*** and get out. That is not conducive for using the computer all day. I don’t really think the virus or need to wear masks is going away anytime soon.

The faster we accept that as a nation, the sooner we can get back to getting s*** done. It’s going to be ugly

Winter is coming y’all.

"Two major college conferences — the Big Ten and Pac-12 — each announced Tuesday they were sidelining college football and other fall sports because of the coronavirus, just weeks before schools were scheduled to play their first games."

That would also sideline all the related/dependent businesses from ticket sales to hotdog sales... TV... etc... etc...

Collegiate sports are big money makers for those evil liberal institutions that are trying to destroy America...

Oh, I’m in a university.... it is a f***ing s***show.

The budget economic hit is going to be brutal.

The emotional hit, has already been painful. I’m pretty sure I cried through at least 7 meetings in the past week.
I mostly cry when I’m angry, it’s probably good I’m socially distant. I was also feeling a little stabby.

Seriously though, the school made us all go “mama bear” to defend some of our younger workers. It was ugly.

Yep we were supposed to open Monday. We didn’t

Due to circumstances beyond our control, (Ie. Covid-19 an f*** ups at a level we can not legally disclose in full detail)

We now do not have a building opening date. Classes start on the 17th. Ready or not.

Mostly not.

st. louis cardinals have a rough time even one game and not being sick. with football, i see where a person and a team really sick pretty afterward. i think smart move not have college football this year. with baseball, everybody is over 6 feet distance outfield in general. the ballpin and the locker room must they are getting sick. mostly, in the future, if this case, the fans shouldn't be allow in stadiums ever.

To be honest, I/we have sailed through it so far. While I find an hour in Costa's enjoying a Cappuccino genuinely therapeutic because of anxiety issues, I have thankfully been resilient enough to not miss it unduly. Now, the coffee shops are back in full swing, with no VAT tax and half price in August on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

On the wider economic front, I fear disaster. Society is very fragile and there are rocky times ahead. Various social commentators have spoken of "crisis politics" where so called "temporary" measures are introduced under cover of crisis, yet end up as simply the accepted "just the way things are". When introduced by certain Governments, it is best to be aware - not that it does much good.

Here in the UK our final departure from the EU looms, with a "No Deal" Brexit a real threat. "The easiest deal in history" and the "oven ready deal" that helped win the last General Election are just distant memories. Brexiteers often spoke of spending the money we send to the EU each year on ourselves instead - a real Leave vote winner. Investigation reveals the money we sent represented just 1% of GDP, and it guaranteed us frictionless trade in a market of more than half a billion people. (Some went towards building up the economies of the weaker economic nations in the Union, thus addressing the so called "migrant crisis" at source - alas, most brexiteers are not capable of such enlightened thinking)

So, anyway, with the Covid driven economic downturn here already, and worse looming, No Deals on the table, our Government will again (as in 2008) be faced with the necessity of "cut backs". This in effect is simply to try to find the most equitable distribution of what wealth there is (borrowed or earned) with an eye on all. The actual for our current Government, last time, was "austerity" where the poorest paid the highest price and bore the brunt of the cut backs. Bankers bonuses soon recovered, as too did tax levels on the richest. Boris Johnson's Government actually ran against their own record in the last election, but in reality they are the very same Old Boys Club whose instinct is to look after themselves while mumbling about the "trickle down effect" and other such palliatives and euphemisms for simple human greed. Not forgetting "Global Britain" of course, otherwise known as "The Banana Republic" Mark II.

Sorry, I'm waffling on as usual, back in Costa's with a bacon butty.

So what is the algorithm to separate fans at a sports event?
Nascar, NFL ...

For Cleveland, they are cordoned off by quarter of the stadium.
But I'm wondering how they calculate to keep groups together, but separate from other groups.

Do you identify how many when you purchase them?

I bet AI could do that near real time.

Easy... every all that is needed is for every sports stadium to put up signs in support of Colin Kaepernick... the fans will social distance themselves way from attending the games.

so the players will playing inside the stadium, and the fans will outside in the parking lot watching on their tvs. but their cars will be social distancing.
