Trump doesn't have the authority to form federal database on police personnel and keeps track of abuse complaints.

There are restrictions on what kind of databases the Federal government can have regarding U.S. citizens.

In addition, if the Federal Government wants to created a new law enforcement related database they have to publish the specifics in the Federal Register and give the public the opportunity to review and challenge it.

And, it is Congress that has the authority by legislation NOT the president Executive Order.

No.

Each federal law enforcement agency has its own records of disciplinary actions, etc... held in their "Personnel" offices.

But there is no complete/comprehensive data base for federal law enforcement personnel.

Additionally, there is no complete/comprehensive data base for local/state law enforcement personnel.... and it is likely illegal for the federal government to have one.

It is also unlikely that each state as any such database for all of the state level law enforcement personnel in their state.

It is the sort of thing that would be maintained at each "Personnel" office.

It might seem odd to some, but in the USA law enforcement personnel are citizens with all of their due rights... just like everyone else.

Which, is why it's probably better in the long run, (in the sense of making actual changes to the system) that protests and calls for action are happening at so many local levels and cities.

Its scary and annoying, but the idea of behind saying it doesn't happen here that is "other city's problem" means nothing gets done.

Like it was too easy to say there was a problem in New York, or there was a problem in St. Louis. (when we all damn well know for a fact there are/were good people in St. Louis that also didn't have the power to change anything on their own)

its a national systematic problem that has to addressed at the leve of every city or town. No president can make an announcement and order it fixed. It's just not that simple.

All those things are true, but they do have a national database utilized in the purchase of firearms. If you have a criminal record, a history of mental health or a past security clearance your name will get flagged. If you have no problems the permission to sell comes to the dealer within three days.

The act reported on in the article that Trump plans to sign is an executive order.

Right. >>> Criminal Record <<<

NOT "misconduct".

Yes. You are right. The article stated that... but not all journalists are known for fully vetting the background facts... let alone reality...

Is Trump stupid enough to think he can sign an EO on this topic that will actually be valid... applicable...?

>>> Maybe <<<

Does Trump think that Americans are stupid enough to think he can sign an EO on this topic that will actually be valid... applicable... and therefore helping his chances of re-election?

>>> Probably <<<

Edit: And obviously this will take years to enact. And as we have all seen, Executive Orders are reversed all the time.

I was wondering about that - the Legality of a national database.
Would it hold personal information?
Is there any enforcement criteria?
Would it be scrubbed and just show data of precincts or cities?
Is there any real teeth behind his executive order?
Is this just a publicity stunt?

So, as an example, in (roughly) 1998-2000 the DoD wanted to created a data base that consolidated information about computer hackers, computer intrusions, etc... against...

A) the various parts of the DoD (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Civilian....)
B) the various federal agencies
C) Other...

The legalities put it on hold for years... then "9/11" happened and "everyone" forgot about cyber crime... for awhile...

The database...?

Never happened.

Huh? My Edit didn't show up (yet)

I mentioned how it would take years if it was even implemented, and as we have all seen, Executive Orders can be reversed.

A concerned dispatcher watching the death of George Floyd on surveillance cameras felt it was necessary to alert a supervisor about the use of force applied by the officers involved, according to an audio recording released by the Minneapolis Police Department on Monday.

The audio stamp on the recording indicates the call was made at 8:30 p.m. local time on May 25, around the time Floyd was being transported by ambulance to the Hennepin County Medical Center.

"I don't know, you can call me a snitch if you want to, but we have the cameras up for 320's call, and…I don't know if they had to use force or not, but they got something out of the back of the squad, and all of them sat on this man, so I don't know if they needed you or not, but they haven't said anything to me yet,” the dispatcher said on the audio call.

The Minneapolis Police Department also released two 911 transcripts, including one from an unidentified off-duty city firefighter who witnessed the incident and said, “I’m on the block of 38th and Chicago and I literally watched police officers not take a pulse and not do anything to save a man, and I am a first responder myself, and I literally have it on video camera… I just happened to be on a walk so, this dude, this, they (expletive) killed him so..."

No problems here... just a chicken farm fire... keep on moving...

living in st. louis, the city of st. louis's police department and the city government has corrupt for years. not this mayor of st louis, since the 50's , the mayors of st. louis city has crooked past that questionable. that i heard about them for a long time. the county of st. louis government and police department not news in corrupt. most of been hidden or less known. that i don't know about it.

this biggest problem in the city that blacks kill blacks every night. we have in a week news, at least, 20 to 40 black killings. most of reasons why completely childless. sometimes, even cops killing innocent blacks, st. louis is a very dangerous city. regardless, who killing who. sometimes, i can't really a cop killing someone, simply he or she have there doubts. in some ways, you see both sides, protesting victims and give the cops - a shadow of doubt.

President Trump's executive order entitled "Safe Policing for Safe Communities" defines a new federal database on police to be shared between agencies and will be the responsibility of the Attorney General. The AG will also designate independent certifying agencies. The certification of these agencies will be required for the use of federal funds. The story and the entire document are in this report from NPR

No it does not.

Did you even bother to read this?

The operative phrase was "The database described in subsection (a) of this section shall include a mechanism to track, as permissible......

This EO is complete and meaningless bulls***... written to dupe the gullible.

Honestly @4d4m are you really this stupid?
