You’d think.
He’s not the only one MN Police have arrested without cause. He’s the one who’s one phone call was to a person that had money and power to bring the story to light. (His bosses). They are putting everyone they arrrest in quarantine. I mean one, is concern over covid but two it is also a rights violation on top of a s*** ton of other right violations after f***ing murder.

It’s a s***show Jennifer.

It looks like one.

We had a similar situation here back in 2011. In Tottenham, North London, Police stopped a taxi that was carrying a passenger believed to be in possession of a gun. They got the man, Mark Duggan, out of the car and shot him dead in the street.

This was witnessed by several bystanders and even caught on mobile phone video. Duggan did not have a gun.

After the shooting, a police officer retrieved an object from a nearby field.
This was a gun that police said was thrown by Duggan as he was shot. the mobile phone footage (which went out on social media. I saw it myself before it was taken down) revealed this to be a lie. No gun was thrown by Duggan at any time.

Police versions of events, related by them to TV news cameras unravelled very quickly and crowds gathered at the local police station to protest.

Public anger very quickly boiled over and three nights of rioting ensued. North London was on fire for three nights before the Cameron government promised the police would be made to give evidence at the inquest. This placated the family of Mark Duggan and the riots ceased.

At the inquest, the police officers were given anonymity, allowed to testify behind a screen and weren't put on oath.

A military surgeon testified that it would be difficult to imagine Duggan throwing his gun 30 feet after being hit by the two shots.

Near the end of the hearings, lawyer Leslie Thomas confronted officer V59 (the officer who shot Duggan) with the possibility that a gun had been planted, saying: "I'm going to suggest to you, V59, that you knew where the gun was before the officers had gone round (the fence), because your colleagues planted it there." The officer replied: "I did not plant any gun at any scene. I find that highly offensive." Thomas also accused officer W70 of inconsistencies and omissions in their testimony.

Officer V59 testified that he shot Duggan because he "Was in genuine fear of his life". His explanation was accepted and the mobile phone footage which showed Duggan not throwing a gun away was never entered as evidence.

The Inquest jury recorded a verdict of lawful killing.

Make of that what you will.

British police are not routinely armed, but special armed units exist. They have gained a reputation for being trigger happy and above the law. Not one armed officer has ever been successfully prosecuted for unlawful killing despite many incidents happening in highly suspicious circumstances such as that of Duggan.

Fact: An IPCC investigation found that police had acted lawfully
Fact: At the coronial inquest the jury, by a 8-1 majority, concluded that Duggan's death was a lawful killing.
Fact: The High Court rejected an request to appeal the verdict of the Coronial inquest.
Fact: An appeal to the civil division of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales was also unsuccessful.

Maybe such a reputation exists among Guardian readers but I would love to see what evidence you have that this is how police are viewed in the real world.

People who don't forge checks never get arrested and never get a boot on the neck.

Maybe bad policing isn't the only problem here.

Some are saying ( from Patheos ) the Boogaloo Bois are embedding in the protesters and then inciting violence. Meanwhile this CNBC article is about a white nationalist group posing as ANTIFA on Twitter. Attorney Gen Barr in this Fox News story has vowed to label ANTIFA as a terrorist group if they keep inciting violence. Go figure.

It is likely that both Boogaloo (and other white supremacy/extreme right wing groups) AND ANIFA ( and other extreme left wing groups) are both inserting themselves into the protests to incite riots.

One of the many problems is that people are too willing to believe that "it" is the "leftist"... or the "far right"... rather than look at the reality that it is both extreme groups.

In addition, it is likely that there are some organized crime gangs that also see the opportunity.

Whenever someone says it is one side or the other, that person is either naive, dumb, willfully ignorant OR has an agenda they want to feed.

Preach.

It's both boogaloo and some anarchists groups.

Personally I have reasons (all related to secret mod s*** that I can not expand on) why I hesitate to outright call antifa organized, under that exact name. but there is a group with an agenda that have been active and causing violence at recent protests, way before Floyd, since Trump has been in office.

I believe they *exist* I don't quite believe the antifa paid by soros narrative, because that has been proven over and over again to be a false flag. - Something about their group is deceptive, and their agenda disruptive. They are definitely extreme in beliefs, probably more left than right, but they are relying too much on deflection and infiltration, their true agenda is divisiveness, and overwhelming urge to latch on to conspiracy is feeding it.

The whole point is more than one group is pushing an agenda where mass upset and destruction is the outcome, one way or another.

I don't know how to stop it, other than hoping other people can see it too, and finally say enough is enough.

Well, Derek Chauvin has been arrested and charged. The three officers who did nothing to stop the killing have been fired and are going to be arraigned as well. The only person who hasn't been punished is the municipal prosecutor who initially denied to charge the officer.

I'm not sure what the protesters want at this point. In particular the violent ones doing the looting and burning. Peaceful protests to bring attention to the issue of police violence toward minorities isn't a bad thing. Violence and destruction, however, detract from the issue.

It seems to me continued acts of violence plays into the narrative of white supremacists that black people cannot control themselves and are an unruly group that need to be oppressed. Understanding the continued oppression and murders by police have provoked the current unrest. It's similar to one's younger sibling poking them over and over until they get a violent outburst, and then crying to the parents.

Add to the mix boogaloo bois and those attempting to incite more violence and a picture begins to emerge. This whole event has been orchestrated; it's time for everyone to chill out.

I would argue actual protesters want a tangible change, instead of being go to stfu you don’t matter.

Nothing even close to a resolution has occurred. Trust in the social contract has been broken.

Look I don’t know the answer and what will make it better either, but telling some to calm down, never actually calms them down.

Feel free to expand on exactly how "this" has been "orchestrated"... and why.

If you don't, all you are doing is talking s***.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying you are wrong. I am just asking that you quit taking bull s*** and state exactly what you mean and provide some facts... not YouTube videos to other bulls*** internet links.

Man up and say what you mean... then provide facts... real facts... not internet memes.

The social contract was broken a long time ago. The problem is the violence is playing into the hands of fascists. That's why there are outside forces trying to provoke more violence. The protesters that turned the guy handing bombs out to the police have the right idea. It's similar to what was going on with the gun law protests; guys showing up with swastikas and all.

The violence needs to stop. The demonstrations don't need to stop, however, if they continue on endlessly they start to lose meaning. People grow bored with it. Claiming victory with the arrest and charging of the officers isn't a bad thing. Then I guess we wait for the trial.

The call is coming from inside the house.

The “demonstrators” are not the cause of the violence. They are also the victims of the violence.
That isn’t as easy to placate and ignore as just saying they got what they asked for.

I agree with what you're saying. But what do they hope to gain? It is already illegal for cops to kill citizens. The problem is enforcement. The guys who really are the problem are the police chief and the prosecutor who refused to arrest Chauvin.

The only real goal is a country void of racism; idealistic but not completely unrealistic. That isn't accomplished through riots, it's accomplished through education. In other words, a completely non racist society will not exist until the racists are no longer racist. Polarizing events that give them the mental excuse to retain their beliefs, lend credence, false or not, to their beliefs do not help.

One thing I've noticed is more violence from police has been revealed through this affair. Cops attacking journalists, random acts of unnecessary police brutality, arresting an FBI agent who was black have been hitting the news. I admit it tickles me a bit. However, If I were a policeman I would be furious. It's hard enough for good cops to win the trust of their communities without this kind of negativity. There is obviously a problem with some police out there.

This comes down to hiring; what kind of sociopath holds someone down with a knee to their neck for 8 minutes when they say they can't breathe? Someone who should never have been a police officer in the first place.

Our nation's police are employed by states and municipalities with their jurisdicions. This is so control over those officers is kept decentralized. The FBI, whose jurisdiction is federal crime and interstate felonies has already had their power expanded too much. They now are able to spy on American Citizens, something the CIA isn't supposed to be doing.

Could this whole thing be used to create a Federal Police force like the Federales in Mexico? That would not be a good thing, too easily exploited by power hungry forces in DC which is why law enforcement is decentralized. I might add if Chauvin were a member of a federal police force covering it up and not prosecuting would be easier.

Police brutality is nothing new. This has been going on since the formation of our nation. The advent of the cell phone and our internet has enabled this to be revealed. It's awesome. Technology has been and I hope is being the catalyst for great changes. That technology could also be used to create an intense surveillance state like we see emerging in Communist China. In other words things can go either way. Should we trust our government so much we allow them to make the choice or do We the People need to hold them accountable?
