I work with a guy and he's mexican. He's was all upset about it.

I'm like why the hell do you give a s***? What the brits do doesn't have any kind of day to day impact on my life.

Not sure why the guy was in a tizzy about.

I would be curious as to the reasons behind his reaction.

@Ratty Said

Isn't nationalism behind a lot of the Brexit deal?

Broadly speaking nationalism could be viewed as a significant factor. More specifically pro Brexit supporters want the UK to once again be a genuinely sovereign nation. They want all laws, directives and regulations to come from people who have been elected by, and are thus answerable to, the British people.

@Ratty Said

I'm a bit ignorant I will admit.

No reason as a rule why you would know much about Brexit.

So some 3 months before things come to a head re the EU and ECJ on one side, and the German FCC on the other. It is difficult to see anyone backing down so I will be very interested to see what transpires when/if the clock runs down. At the moment one of two outcomes seem the most likely. Either the Bundesbank will be able to satisfactory answer the questions put forward by the FCC in which case nothing will change re the PSPP or, time will run out and the FCC will prevent the Bundesbank from buying any more bonds under the PSPP. Now bear in mind that the Bundesbank are currently buying 25% of bonds under the PSPP. Take them out and other nations would struggle to fill the void. The EU would most likely therefore take the Bundesbank to court. This would be the ECJ, the same court the FCC ruled had no primacy in such dealings involving the Bundesbank....

Interesting listening to Bruno Le Maire effectively say that giving Brussels significantly more power would increase the independence of member states! He must have been knocking back some 'special' muffins from Amsterdam before his interview.

Meanwhile the 'Frugal four' have publicly shot down the latest proposals from France and German to mutualise debt in the EU. Yep, just all one big happy family.

Sounds like a no brainer to me. I wouldn't want someone in Brussels or whatever the EU leadership is having anything to do with my country's affairs.

The way I've heard it spun is that it's based on xenophobia and racism.

Of course with the racism card, that one never gets old apparently.

Well that's certainly the narrative the anti Brexit mob push. If you don't agree with them it's because you are ignorant, easily led, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, claustrophobic, sexist, a misogynist, a right wing extremist, a Nazi etc etc etc.

Remaoners told us that there would be a great exodus of companies from the UK if Brexit happened. Well the latest company to commit to the UK is Nissan. They have announced that they will be pulling out of Spain and consolidating their operations in the UK with billions of pounds in investments and many new jobs.

Hmmm, so the UK leaves the EU and a major company decides to quit a EU country and INCREASE their investment in the UK. Gotta love project fear.

"Remoaners". And you accuse me of immaturity..? You've got some neck.

And we're not Remainers any more. We're now 'Rejoiners."

You can't campaign to remain in something you've already left, you moron.

As for Nissan......

The news articles I've read say that their current scenario is just one of several plans drawn up. Everyone knows that companies draw up a range of plans for every eventuality and choose the one suits most when the time comes. We have left the EU, but that is a case of BRINO. The full picture won't become clear until January 2021.

Example scenario: Renault have been looking at building the new Captur at Sunderland because the Sunderland plant is already adapted to manufacture those parts. They are now considering outsourcing this manufacturing to Nissan on their behalf at Sunderland for that very reason. Nissan wouldn't make the parts at their Spain plant because it would have to be adapted at great expense to make these parts. Making the Captur at Sunderland would be a sound business move that is in no way motivated by supporting Britain especially, much less Brexit. It's just cheaper for them to have the parts made there.

Given that the UK is, to all intents and purposes, still playing by EU rules and the government are promising a free trade deal to Nissan whatever the outcome next January, Nissan would be daft not to grab at that. And they're not daft.

Consider your comment debunked.

Nissan will be the new British Leyland; with all cars made in the EU suddenly becoming way too expensive due to tariffs they'll corner the UK general purpose car market.

Everyone will have to get used to driving Jukes.

Tenses obviously arent your thing are they. I was using past tense and referring to what remoaners were saying BEFORE the UK had left the EU. Sorry if you can't understand the difference btw past and present tense. I know it's a difficult concept for some.

Wow what amazing insight. If only I had posted something like that before. Oh wait, I did.

After the GFC the differences in economic performances btw what are now the EU's three largest economies accelerated. Whilst the German economy has done reasonably well over the past decade the French economy has been only so so whilst Italy has struggled. The Covid-19 stresses look like they will only magnify the economic differences btw these three nations esp btw Germany and Italy. Historically we know that increasing differences in economic outcomes invariably leads to an increase in political tension. In short, the challenges for the EU are only just beginning.

The UK is set to begin formal FTA negotiations with Australia and NZ. Something that was impossible to do whilst they were in the EU...

Nice to see KS telling young school kids that there was no homelessness in the UK ten years ago. Clearly he thinks it's best to start lying to the kids as early as possible.

Ah how times change. Over the past four years or so the CBI have been widely quoted by remoaners. Presented as an infallible source. However just recently the Director-General of the CBI stated that the organisation now opposes any extension to the implementation period beyond December 2020. The Director-General said that that British businesses have the "resilience to be able to plan for a ‘no deal’ Brexit,” and they had "no interest in delaying". This is not what rejoiners are wanting to hear as they continue to try a pressure the UK government to extent the transition period by up to two years. Something that would clearly be in the EU's best interests but certainly not in the best interests of the UK.
