Three things:

If, as the GOP says, it was all about the Democrats’ desire to overturn the election and nothing else, then let’s point out the obvious here: 2020 is two weeks away. If overturning the election were the sole objective, then there would be no point in doing this so close to election year after Trump’s current term will end anyways. And that’s not to mention that everyone knows already that the Senate wouldn’t remove him anyways, including the House Democrats.

So there’s that. And what’s also obvious to everyone (yes, including the GOP) is that Trump used government spending money to bribe a foreign government in an attempt to get them to interfere in a domestic election, as well as smeared a top career government official into losing her job when attempts were made to prevent such a thing. Anyone who says otherwise is obstructing because they want to remain in office, or have listened to idiots and become so themselves.

Finally, I want to say this. The House should play a Mitch and keep from submitting this until a more impartial Senate is ready to take this up or sworn in after election (if Trump is re-elected). In the meantime they can use the time to add more articles as evidence continues to mount on other abuses, and they will, such as the revelation of his taxes likely to come June.

While there was certainly some discussion of impeachment from the beginning of Trump's term, this discussion came from an extreme minority of Democratic legislators and never had even the remotest traction. It was at best a political talking point.

In addition, prior to the whistleblower report about Ukraine Pelosi had made it clear that she was not going to back any impeachment effort based on the special counsel investigation.

So, prior to the Ukraine situation there was never going to be a move for impeachment.

It is interesting to note that all of the witness agains Trump were part of his administration (aka the "best people" ).
In addition, the whistleblower was absolutely a member of Trump's administration, and (considering this persons being allowed to sit in on important phone calls) mostly likely a person selected by Trump himself.

In fact, the people pushing the story of Trump's corruption and/or incompetence (from the beginning of his administration) have largely been Republicans selected by Trump. They were not crazy liberals forced on Trump. He selected them or keep them around when he had the option to get rid of anyone he wanted to get rid of at any time.

This entire narrative is an indictment against the corruption and incompetence of Trump and the politics based corruptions of Republican legislators... oh, and the cowardice of a large number of Republican legislators who would not stay in office to stand up to him.

Anyway, the Democrats in the H.R. know full well that the Senate is not going to remove Trump.

At this point, the entire thing is about showing America who Trump is and what the Republican party is about.

America... the American voter... is on notice to make a choice in November.

even if it happens, it would overturn the election. The "presidency" will fall to Pence.

that's whole purpose of a VP-- to have a back up in case something happens to the president so the election is valid. No impeachment,or any other type of removal ever invalidates the election, that is just f***ing crazy talk to deflect from the situation.

And this talk about a "Coup"? It's not like the Dems are trying to take over the other two branches.

Wait! What?

You mean that the H.R. doesn't have the power to remove Trump all by themselves!?

And the the Dems have not enlisted the help of our military to storm the White House and have Trump manuals... physically removed and then sent to prison in Alaska or a remote island... or GITMO... or into exile to live in N. Korea?

But Coup d'état is such a cool sounding term and fun to claim even if it it complete crap...

Let's try it out.... Coup d'état!

Why can't impeachment, and senate trial be voted anonymously?

No reason not to... except to put pressure on all involved so, maybe, they feel the pressure and risk of not getting re-elected into office.

I do like the idea that if this is a witch trial as a result of a witch hunt, then he aught to be tried like a witch!

Because the founding fathers thought senators and representatives would be honest intelligent men when seen as a whole

I had heard that Pelosi didn't call for a head count (or whatever they call it) before they started, to "make sure" before moving on.

He'll wear this as a badge of honor.

And when he is re-elected, it will be a badge of disgrace for the American citizen.

The closest he will ever come to being honorable.

Sadly, as you all know, I expect him to be re-elected... so, yes >>> disgrace upon all Americans.

Yes. Although the way the GOP keeps talking about Hillary more than the Democrats do, I think Pence is kind of the forgotten person in this.

In scrutiny, the Constitution isn’t really built for what has transpired this year.
