Why are there so many DEM presidential candidates? I don’t ever remember seeing this many people put there hat in the ring.

And they just keep coming. I think the one or two people that knew they couldn’t win dropped off but then like other people come in to take their place.

@chaski Said

You have a short memory.

In 2016 at one point there were 22 republican candidates who had entered the race.

Total number of "declared" (i.e. who filed to run) candidates for the Dems & and Reps 2016 vs 2020 (to date)...

2016
Dems > 224 with ... something like 4 "major" candidates.
Reps > 286 with... 22 "major" candidates.

2020 (to date)
Dems > 293... with something like 18 "major" candidates.
Reps > 146... with (realistically) 1 "major" candidates.

Note: I got my information from BallotPedia... they might be a deep state "FAKE NEWS" organization...

One reason why - It's a good resume filler "Former Presidential Candidate"

I had said I thought that's why Trump ran. Just so he could brag "Presidential Candidate"
But then things got out of hand and ....

What should we do about climate change, ultimately, isn't the question.

The questions are:

1. Is polluting our air and/or water and/or land acceptable? Yes or No.

If "no" then "we" need do take action to stop polluting our environment.

If "yes" then we have the next question"

2. How much pollution is acceptable?

So gakINGKONG... is polluting our environment acceptable? How much pollution is acceptable?

We can all agree that it isn't essential to agree. The hue and cry over fractured American politics is not necessary or interesting.

Let them be fractured. It's the luxury of living in the US.

It isn't essential to agree on Opinions and Policies.

It IS ESSENTIAL to for everyone to understand FACTS and TRUTH.

There is no "agreement" on facts.

Hillary on the Stern show about Bernie:

Asked by Stern whether she hated Sanders for the long primary campaign he ran against her in 2016 and the slowness with which he offered his eventual endorsement, Clinton said "I don't hate anybody," before adding about the time it took Sanders to endorse her: "He could have. He hurt me, there's no doubt about it."
Then she delivered the dagger: "And I hope he doesn't do it again to whoever gets the nomination. Once is enough."

The current state of politics and action, which is to do nothing, certainly is beneficial to those riding the upper stratosphere. Mitch McConnell, Koch, and the current 1% like inaction simply because it ensures they stay up there.

But it isn’t sustainable in the long term of course. Inflation-adjusted median wages have stagnated for 5 decades while wages for the top 10% have grown 50% and doubled for the top 1%, increasing the share of total US wealth of the latter two to 80%. Health costs and higher education costs have far outpaced inflation, more Americans are falling behind in such necessary debt as a result, Social Security and Medicare are in dire danger, and our government debt has skyrocketed. Global temperatures have gone on a record setting pace, increasing the risk of extreme temperatures, weather events, and mass global migration - the latter of which will eventually be a national security risk for the US.

Such a laissez faire philosophy might be great for those at the top looking down at such upheaval while it continues to currently benefit the untouched. But, much like Rome, the Byzantine Empire, and the Soviet Union, the continued thinning of the middle will eventually collapse the entire structure.

Average polling since the Nov. 21 debate and Bloomberg’s entry into the race demonstrate Biden’s continued comfortable lead, Sanders emergence over the falling Warren among progressives, and Buttigieg’s recent surge into double digits. Bloomberg was polling over Harris, who dropped out of the race. Harris was polling in single digits, so her dropout likely won’t result in a surge for any particular candidate.

So far, qualification for the Dec. 19 debate, which ends a week from now, rests at 6 candidates: Biden, Sanders, Warren, Buttigieg, Klobachar, and Steyer. Gabbard and Yang just need one more poll of at least 4% or greater to qualify, which is still likely, but with each day getting closer to the cutoff date a week away, becomes more perilous. Nobody else is close, not even Booker. Bloomberg likely would have qualified if he had entered sooner, as he is polling regularly at 4%.
