Trump is already throwing Pence under the bus... he's been telling Congress that they should be investigating Pence's phone calls with the Ukraine.

So what are the rules for appointing a new vp?

Like if he threw pence under the bus offially and he goes down first. Then Pelosi is second in line, but for how long?

Otherwise pence and trump have to go down together to get #presidentpelosi.
I mean ford got to pick a vp. But can’t remember how long that took or the rules. And I’m too crazed today to look it up right now

There was a piece on CNN about it.
Agnew resigned, Nixon picked Ford, and all approved.

However, does anyone think House and Senate would approve a new VP that Trump picks - with Pelosi as the next-in-line. .. if Pence were to resign?

They have to determine if Pence's face-to-face with Pres. Z in September was meant to be a strong-arm warning.

I think "it" is somewhat vague... and unlikely to happen because the GOP will most likely not choose to remove Trump from office.

However: Generally speaking "if" Trump was removed from office AND Pence's knowledge/involvement was considered to be substantial then the succession would move to Speaker of the House.

In Nixon's situation, Agnew was already removed for other issues... Ford came in to replace Agnew, and was clearly on the "outside" of any and all related events (either by Nixon or Agnew). So, Ford was "safe" and clearly became president.

In the case of Trump... the questions might be something like:

> Was Pence involved... did he know anything "important"... etc

> Or is Pence in the clear & Trump is just s*** talking as usual..

> Would Pence go 1st, giving Trump time to select a VP that would step in as President.

etc.

Of course it is all speculation and supposition at this point.

If Trump is impeached (more on that later), then Pence becomes President and Pence would then have to appoint the new VP with approval by both chambers of Congress. Yes, you read that correctly. It certainly would be an interesting spectacle, given the high partisanship that we’ve seen with SCOTUS appointments, and that was just the GOP-led Senate. It could very well be that Pelosi decides to table this like Mitch did with Merrick Garland and leave it vacant in an election year. Which is constitutional as well, given that there is zero time limit on how long a new VP has to be replaced. Truman left it blank for several years after the 1945 death of FDR until he ran in 1948. So Pelosi could be the de-facto VP for the remainder of the term and could therefore very well be President should something happen to Pence.

As far as Trump and Pence being impeached at the same time, it is extremely unlikely. All eyes are on Trump right now, and even if dirt comes up on Pence, it is likely that a separate hearing/trial would take place later for him. Or it could be well into election year 2020 by then that everyone just decides to leave it up to voters at that point.

That all being said, I really do doubt that Trump gets thrown out of office. ZERO of the 197 GOP members of the House voted for the next stage of the impeachment proceedings today. And we would need 20 GOP Senators to vote to remove Trump for office in addition to our 47 DNC Senators? Not likely. Especially in an election year coming up where 23 out of the 53 GOP senators are up for re-election by a party base that is still 90% in support of Trump.

The best we can hope for is that this all paints a damaging enough portrait of our corrupt President to defeat him in the polls. Which, if you think about it, is probably best anyways. Let the people decide. Besides, who wants a Pence presidency?

interesting, if republicans turn their backs on bozo, and impeach him. they would support pene to become president. it would make sense.

here would be the most weird twist of the election, if pene ask Nancy to be vp, both parties finally come back to normal for the sake of the country. if both pene and Nancy won together.

main purpose: unite both parties finally work as one union.

I mostly agree with what you have said..

None the less, it isn't inconceivable that Trump will throw Pence under the bus... he has already started saying that Congress should look into Pence's Ukraine phone calls.

Sure that could be a "hey that is where the exculpatory information will be found" thing... but Trump isn't that smart.

Yes... I agree that Trump and Pence will walk away (more or less) unscathed. I still think it likely that Trump will get re-elected.

But... I do think I was wrong about impeachment... Trump is likely to be impeached.... I didn't think that before.

As to Pence... at this point he is a ruined politician... he will be like Dan Quayle... his short time has come and gone... I question (in my own mind) that Trump will even select Pence as his VP for the next cycle.

"It" is all up in the air right now... except the part about Trump getting re-elected.... the voters of the USA aren't smart enough to not re-elect him.

I thought Trump already said he'd keep Pence.
Though it may have just been another one of his off the cuff blatherings to pump up the adoration from his lemmings.

Yes.

My point is only that with Trump one cannot be certain....

...again, he has said that Congress should be looking into Pence's contact with Ukraine.

Is that just Trump's diareah of the mouth? Is it Trump aattempting to deflect attention away from himself. Is it any reflection on how "valuable" Trump considers Pence? Does saying that Pence will be his VP in 2020 really mean anything to Trump?

Again.. I still think that Trump & Pence will ultimately walk away from all this; i.e. won't be removed from office.

I just thing the potentialities are fun to discuss.
