Does there need to be punishment for offensive halloween costumes?
Yes, society needs to send a message to those who don't get the point. Because, common sense.
No, punishing people for offensive Halloween costumes is a waste of time and dangerous.
All of Halloween is an offense. I don't worship the Devil thanks.
Halloween is fun for kids and please stop picking on my holiday.

What is an "Offensive Halloween Costume"?

I know religious people who don't want their kids dressed as witches, wizards, monsters, etc.

... socially sensitive people who are appalled by people dressing as Nazis...

...culturally/ethnically sensitive people who are offended by people "appropriating" other culture's attire or wearing "black face"...

I'm going to a party for adults... there will be food, booze, probably marijuana, music and a bunch of very nice people... but no nudity, no political discussions, no pissing on people's religious beliefs, etc..

At this party I will be a Rainbow Unicorn....

If I dress up as Abraham Lincoln, will that offend vampires?

But yet it’s a thing. Not from me or my house, but some folks in the west have taken to social media year after year to lecture the rest of us.

the only way be support this idea is to banned Halloween all together. nobody is allow to wear a form of Halloween costume anywhere in the usa during 24 hours of Halloween. if someone get caught serve fines and jail time.

that is how stupid this idea would probably pass in both houses. the way this country running it would be law. if you give congress the opportunity, they would banned during the Christmas season, no one would be able wear a santa suit in public.

happy Halloween - welcome to 1984 !!

And I wrote in english.

And I posted on the internet.

--which has been around for a while.

And I remember HuffPo and yahoo and other fluff sites offering us advice around the middle of October about "cultural appropriation" and so forth.

Example: college student dressed as an African cannibal with a bone in the nose and black-body makeup. Example: a college girl goes to a Halloween party dressed as a Native American princess complete with feather head-dress. Each story you read online includes a reminder of just how egregious this behavior is. Members of the Church of Political Correctness have pushed this pap for years as they slowly and methodically isolate the offenders to the cause.

And from the christian right don't wear costumes of witches, monsters, devils, etc... because it is evil...

There are nitwits from all political groups... from the far right to the far left... somehow you only notice the "fluff's" from the left.

Pretty hypocritical of you.

It's not punishment so much as if you act like a douchenozzel don't be surprised if people treat you like you are a douchenozzle.
That is reaping what you sow s***, not people "punishing" others.

some people are capable of not treating others like s*** because it's the right thing to do, not because they are scared of the "punishment". I know it's shocking that those people still exist on all sides of a political spectrum.

It's so easy to claim to be the victim, that a*****es do it all the time, especially when they are the ones s***ting all over everything.

Punishment? Since when were people being punished for their choice of Halloween costume?

Being criticized is probably a more accurate adjective here. You are certainly still allowed to wear whatever it is you particularly have in mind. And if you cannot take such criticism and want to whine about it, then perhaps choose something else? Or you can simply shut up and choose to live with your poor choice. Opinion is a fact of life. It happens.

And, by the way, what does this have to do with the west?
