I can't see how they could borrow from other cultures (stories or traditions) without being called out. The early Hebrew tribes often were called to task for falling away from their first love of their God. It seems like an incredible deception to suggest that this narrative too was borrowed somehow.

What did Christians do to created Christianity?

They usurped the Jewish god, which Jaws had plagiarized out of Sumer and Egypt.

That's an interesting question.

As I once heard somewhere, the "significant" start of Christianity didn't start until 100 or so years after JC's death. Prior to that, it was just stories.

It would be an interesting study of the methods used to promote Christianity to significance.

"Christians" didn't do anything to create "christianity".

The Emperor Constantine wanted to consolidate the growing cult of Jesus into a political mechanism to control his subjects.

Thus he directed the "leaders" of the new cult (aka bishops) to all get together and all get on one page.

The (arguably) "true" christians and their beliefs were left behind and replaced by an easily bureaucratized system.

And the rest is history.

The major differences in the Old Testaments of the Catholics and the Protestants would be the book of Ruth, I and II Maccabees and the book of Tobit. The former being in the KJV and the others being in the Catholic Bible exclusively. If you consider the Jews searching for God in history meant writing down what they observed in each lifetime and handing it down as religious practice - talking about the scribes here - it's an amazing feat. The purpose would be to predict what God, or the Gods, or whoever where going to do in future lifetimes. It should be noted that scrolls found in Qumran of the book of Isaiah match perfectly with one found from 500 BC.

The Disciples of Jesus went to different places in the Roman Empire. They taught and wrote about their experiences. Scholars know of 42 Gospels ( stories about Jesus' life). One of them is a Gospel according to Mary. The book The Complete Gospels has all the known writings archeologists have found. The Romans in the 4th century usurped the religion as you pointed out= destroying the texts they deemed unfit - founded the Roman Catholic Church. By that time they had stopped feeding Christians to lions and persecuting them because their numbers had grown to be intimidatingly large. They simply took it over, rewrote it and carried on ruling where they used to play god ( Jupiter ) themselves.

The Jewish God is a bit more difficult to ferret out. The story of the first man Adam ( in Aramaic, Hebrew, means Man ) is a story that is also in the Koran, in Yazidism ( the Kurds ) and in other middle eastern Monotheistic religions and in different forms. In the Koran Adam ( Mishaya ) is kicked out of the Garden for refusing to worship the Snake. It is possible that Yazidis can trace their religion to Zoarastrianism and Mithraism from Persia, present day Iran.

What is your point... that the Romans hijacked the beliefs of the so called "early christians"?

Yes, this was done... at the direction of the Emperor Constantine.

You're absolutely right, in the 4th century the General Constantine became a christian and later the emperor - resulting in the birth of the Roman Catholic Church.

You have the order of events off just a little.

Constantine was 1st General > 2nd Emperor > and then finally on his death bed (allegedly) converted to Christian.

Of course what we call the "Roman Catholic Church" did not actually form until the "East–West Schism" (aka the Great Schism) in 1054 AD...

As to Constantine's actions "resulting in the birth of the Roman Catholic Church", you might as well say that his actions resulted in the birth of the Luthren Church, the Episcopal Church and the Southern Baptist Convention.

One learns all kinds of fun facts, when one studies the history of christianity.

Sources that claim that Constantine was "converted" to christianity, while he was still on military campaign to become the sole emperor, are not hard to find.

These sources are typically very light on details and essentially point to alleged vision(s) or dream(s) that Constantine had that lead him to convert to Christianity.

There are, however, a variety of problems with believing this conversion story (aside from the fact that Constantine also had a vision where Apollo promised Constantine something like 30 years of rule).

For one, there was no single Christian belief system at the time of the alleged "conversion" vision.

In addition, one might wonder why if converted to "Christianity" did Constantine name a city (Constantinople) after himself (a classic Roman Emperor/Pagan move).

And, why was the city full of pagan symbols and had no "Christian" symbols any the time?

Basically, if one objectively looks at the sources that claim that Constantine was converted to christianity before becoming Emperor, it is pretty clear that this idea comes as a re-writing of history by Christians who wanted (and continue to want) to validate their belief system and cling to the idea that somehow the bible is the word of god as opposed to a document used to highjack early christianity and use it as a mechanism to control people.

etc

It is more likely that Constantine, being a political leader played christians and pagans off each other to get what he wanted... a stable grasp of power over the people of the empire.

The District of 'The Donald' has a nice ring to it.

Actually he may have to declare martial law and be named 'Emporer Donald the First'
