I can't see how they could borrow from other cultures (stories or traditions) without being called out. The early Hebrew tribes often were called to task for falling away from their first love of their God. It seems like an incredible deception to suggest that this narrative too was borrowed somehow.

So literally for all of the recorded human history (and probably before recorded history) cultures (i.e. people & peoples) have borrowed and/or adopted stories or portions of stories from other cultures, but somehow the "Wandering Jews" were immune to adopting anything from any other culture.

Sure... that's completely believable.

>>> Note: The Jews DID NOT "create" the Bible. The Jews created the "Hebrew Bible" (aka Tanakh). The book "we" know of as the "Bible" was created by "early christians" at the direction of the Emperor Constantine. <<<

I know it makes me a horrible and terrible person, but I recommend that everyone (especially christians) read the bible, study the bible and study the creation/formation of the bible. Doing this helps one not say stupid or inaccurate things about the bible and thus undermine one's own opinion.

Sorry for being such a horrible person by giving that advice.

The Torah wasn't written down until after Moses and the Exodus. The stories before that are from the oral tradition of enslaved people who clung to their cultural identity. If you can figure out and prove to the scientific community where the Jews came from before their enslavement in Egypt you will win the Nobel Prize; no joke. The year on the Hebrew calendar is 5780. The Jews left Egypt approximately 1500 BC, that's 3500 years ago so there are 2280 years unaccounted for. You might be interested in learning about the history and beliefs of Zoarastrianism.

Good example.

How would they have known?

I can read up on this and play catch up. What was their way of ripping off other cultures and stories (if that's what actually happened)?

The same as every other culture that has ever interacted with each other... it starts with looking at the other culture, moves to communicating with them, listening to them, then appropriating anything deemed valuable and/or important.

You have probably done this vary thing in your life... how? But copying, mirroring, adopting the behavior of the people that you "like", admire.... have learned from.

This concept really isn't that complicated.

The stories from Moses on are the recording of the story of the Jews "searching for God in history" all the way up to the story of Judas Maccabeus. It's interesting to compare the original stories from the Torah to the old testament stories in the Roman Catholic Bible, then to the King Jame's Version and then to the NIV Bible. ( I like to call that one the New and Improved Version - yes, even today they are trying to rewrite it). The original stories do not paint a very flattering image of God.

Pretty sure the Catholics and protestants have a very similar perspective on the stories of Moses.

Most are the changes are word choice and usage, maybe some style. The overall message is the same.

You're "pretty sure"...

Hmmm.... maybe you should study the history of your holy book so that you can be certain.

No... they appropriated some of our 1970's and 1980's clothing fashion.
