OR....

We could just update the Brady Bill to eliminate gun show exceptions and other loopholes, in requiring more universal background checks, and including more reasonable requirements, such as the absence of certain mental health and domestic abuse backgrounds, in addition to criminal histories.

You know. Common sense measures. That mirror statistical research.

Nobody is calling for absolute gun bans. The only thing even remotely close to that has just been a request that automatic weapons return to the forbidden list. They serve no purpose other than for a crazed individual to use to unload hundreds of bullets in less than a minute into a crowd. That way less people will be killed when he goes postal with a weapon.

And the hysteria that you people perpetuate on it only ensures even reasonable measures never reach the floor.

stop with the left wing talking points..

it's harder to buy and then take home the same day at guns shows then it is to buy one at a gun store....in order to buy a gun at a gun show you must fill out 5 pages of paperwork....which includes finger prints..and then that paperwork goes to the ATF for background checks
Quote:

those are covered in those 5 pages...

after your background check is done that dealer must send your purchase to a federal license fire arms dealer near you..who then depending on the state you live in will do another background check before you get your guns...this takes anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks.

Point 2...
fully automatic weapons are banned..semi automatic is what is not banned..fully auto means you just have to pull trigger once to fire all bullets..the reason the Las Vegas shooter had to use a bump stock.. a semi auto..means you have to pull once for every bullet...there is no one alive today that could fire "hundreds" of bullets pulling the trigger one at a time...

point 3

I am a damn good shot with my guns...but I am deadly with my compound bow..I know I could take out at least 30 people a minute with it and no one would see or hear those arrows coming.

Point 4

Chicago has very strict gun laws hasn't helped them now has it 1500 people shot just this year.

it's time to leave what the bull leaves on the barn floor on the barn floor...

mmm... Increased surveillance!"

(just guessing)

I was close, but I should have known trumpsterf*** would use this for his anti-immigration agenda:

"Republicans and Democrats must come together and get strong background checks, perhaps marrying this legislation with desperately needed immigration reform, " Trump wrote

So Trump will be our savior by calling for measures that were passed in the house almost 6 months ago (which probably includes provisions he reversed from an Obama administration executive order), and A Wall... A Big, Beautiful Wall!!

True....if buying from a commercial firearms dealer. However, the gun show loophole isn’t referring to that. It is referring to private party transactions, a feature of gun shows. And those do not require the extensive background checks you are illustrating.

@bobbimay Said

Not enough in the mental illness department - they only include those who are either determined as such in courts or admitted into institutions. They don’t include those reported by doctors or medical cases.

Thank you for the diversion lesson, but I know what the difference is between fully automatic and semi automatic. The point was, though, with the latter, which is legal to possess, the average person is able to fire off shots at a much quicker rate than with manual firearms. And, yes, it can reach into the hundreds when bump stocks, which are also legal, are added to them.

And, again, they serve no purpose other than to bring down as many humans as you can in a short amount of time. Can you think of a situation where we might need to do that? I suppose if you believe orcs are real or risk an impending a zombie apocalypse, you might have merit in finding our right to have such weapons.

Which brings me to...

Nice to know, Legolas. But you need to take a bit more pride in your skill here, rather than imply that anyone can achieve this level of proficiency absent of guns. While there are certainly exceptions everywhere, fact of the matter is, while not every mass shooting will be eliminated or the number of deaths, we will see a reduction of deaths if semi-automatic weapons are taken out of the trade market. So why not do so? It doesn’t have to be one extreme solution or another.

I don’t know about Chicago this year, but since the Brady Bill was enacted in the early 1990’s, the rate of violent crimes, overall homicides, and gun related homicides, which were at a peak near the mid 1990s, each having had risen steadily since the FBI started tracking such data in the 1960’s. have been declining steadily and are now near their early 1960s levels, returning to half the rate it was in 1993.

H.R. 1112

These are bills that the House has passed and presented on the doorstep for Mitch’s Senate to take up, which he has refused to do so. One deals with the loophole. The other deals with extending the waiting period.

I don’t see any bans here, do you?

You can to this day buy and own a full auto weapon. It takes about a year. You must have a very very clean record. About 50 to hundred thousand dollars. You must know the right dealer. The weapon must have been made before 1986. Your local police department will be notified. To travel to Az. For the big auto gathering takes even more paperwork but it can be done.
Hope this helps.

Curious ...

Do you know (or anybody else) if security companies could get fully automatic weapons?

I once took a tour of a data-center that had it's own security force that looked rather well armed.
They worked in conjunction with the city security forces. If something happened on their property, the company's security force would be first to respond.

This is old news. Everyone knows this. Broken homes lead to dysfunctional children. If you decide to make a baby and then walk out on that woman and that child, you’re setting that child up for disaster and a life of poverty. That’s not new.
It’s also consistent with my first statement which is I intend to maintain a two-parent home so that my sons can see how to live and can emulate my values. Strong fathers will create strong sons.

A trust can own the weapon. Each and every person would need to be finger printed and go through the same process
As above.

Considering a lot of those places don't have the same level freedoms to guns, I can't see how we can use those areas to compare with the rate of mass shootings in the United States.

Well, well, well.

What have we here?

Somebody wants to TAKE YOUR GUNS!!

...those firearms can be taken through rapid due process," Trump said in televised remarks from the White House on Monday morning. "That is why I have called for red flag laws, also known as extreme risk protection orders."

You know it's a slippery slope!

It starts with Domestic Violence, and mentally unstable.
Moves on to violent tendencies and aggression.

Pretty soon if you speak unkindly of the Commander in Chief, you can expect a knock on your door!

BTW: Gun manufacturers should be happy about this kind of talk - it'll spike sales again!

Are you sure you want to go down this path?

I mean, we certainly can, and I’d be more than happy to oblige, but, realize, it will result in you basically confirming the need for gun control.

But if you want to save face, just admit that, like heavy metal in the 80’s, the video game scapegoating is bulls***.

That is actually the point of those charts.

Since your grasp of the obvious is so keen, I will expand... the idea is that countries with laws that control/limit firearms sales/purchasing/ownership have fewer violent gun deaths.

The comparison presents the idea that the problem of gun violence in the USA isn't violent video games, but rather it is firearms access & ownership.

One of the arguments (in the USA) against "gun control" is that gun laws do not stop bad people from getting guns.

So, the fact that "those places don't have the same level freedoms to guns" is irrelevant, since the "bad" people can easily get firearms.

This shifts the argument to "why" are there so many more violent gun deaths in the USA.

The charts in question pretty much take the violent video games argument off of the table.

I know that you are in fact smart enough to know this, so your statement I can't see how we can use those areas to compare with the rate of mass shootings in the United State is, as you know, incorrect.
