I agree with both. I understand why people air things out publicly. We need to look no further than the 60’s Civil Rights movement to get that.

But considering that we have a racist in the Oval Office and a vegetable in charge of the Senate, we are not going to get any change right now anyways, no matter how vocal people are.

My strategy isn’t silencing people, but temporarily silencing certain public discord to give us a better chance in getting those two people replaced 18 months from now with people who WILL listen.

But staying silent for a year and half means people will suffer and die.

I get it’s a difference in playing a long game and short game in politics, but why does it always have to come down to we can’t frighten or turn off the white votes, but it’s totally cool for the brown people to suffer and die for the great good. How long 18 months 4 more years? 8 ... decades. It’s never going to be a “good time” because some people just don’t want equality because they think giving others the same means they lose something. It’s the reason behind any group asking for equality. Waiting gets old, and it usually has higher stakes than just waiting in line, literal life and death stakes.

I get that we want to win, but all I’m hearing is it’s cool to sacrifice the brown people. As a brown person, that s*** hurts and very few people want to own it, they just keep saying not yet.

I think it is less about having to remain silent, and more about "let's don't completely trash each other as we have a common foe".

So, air "your" grievances as mature adults... behind closed doors if possible... in public if necessary... but not to the point where "we" undermine each other so much that Trump gets a 2nd Term.

You, DT, know my view on this next election (sad and as disappointing as it is).

Still there is "hope".

Trump so obviously flaunts his disdain for our democracy that the Democratic candidates... "hopefuls"... need to keep their eye on the proverbial prize.

You know the old proverb, A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush sitting on a pile of dog s***.

Sorry... that last part probably made nonsense.

I saw a comparison between two candidates:

Warren wants quick, big change, where (I think it was) Biden is wanting to take smaller steps.

I think big change would be harder to get through - and maybe never happen, where the smaller steps you at least expect to get some progress. ... this is the tough part about answering Leon's series. You'd love to be able to make big changes in some things, but the reality says otherwise.

From Trump today:

“So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” he added. “Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

I think we all need to take a deep breath and remember who we need to focus on here.

I know. My frustration is more with the voters than the politicians.

AOC can certainly do a better job of playing the long game. She is just a freshman though. She has a lot of attention on her and it’s a tough line of when to use that to advantage. I really don’t think Pelosi or Biden have bad intentions, just they are better and more jaded in how the game is played.

AOC and the squad has the freshmen issue and wanting to do something now. The squad is like the tea party wing, but republicans do tend to follow the party line better. Like a generational issue, it’s a different approach. So I’m not mad they are getting pulled aside and told how it is. The attacks like the one trump did today are gross, and even though I don’t think within the party it is about race, it becomes about race quickly when criticism happens.

Bernie is older, but has been an outsider so long he’s not used to working in the party either.
Fact is though the actual voters that turn out tend to skew older, so they will respond better to the Pelosi and Biden style.

Personally I haven’t figured out where to lump in Harris and Warren and how well they would do.

I would like it if more democrats that are polling poorly would just drop out. So at least we can have a debate with everyone on the same stage. And acting in a way that can help pick the best choice not tearing each other down.

Like I said my biggest problem is with the idea we have to wait because it upsets people. The ideas of who it’s ok to upset. I know the “rules”. The rules are just s***ty and I have a lot of frustration and anger and hurt I’m dealing with.

You all here at tfs are mostly fine reasonable people, I’m not mad at anyone here. I’m just at a point where I’m tired and feeling oppressed in a way I can’t fight against. It’s sad but I’m happy my Jay is obviously a straight while male, he gets the benefit of the doubt in ways I don’t. In ways that make his s***show of situation better. I couldn’t imagine dealing with his issues if he were brown like me. And I know it sounds racist as f***, but at least I know somethings are easier because he’s white and not “scary” to people.

Sorry if I’m ranting. I do understand what y’all are saying. Addressing things in private is probably best, but sometimes it’s just hard to bid your time. So I get the impatient, especially with the squad and how a lot of POC behaves in the workplace... get in and work to get your job done fast and done well, because you most likely won’t get the benefit of the doubt so if things go sideways, you may not have the job long enough to fix it. Like
Pelosi I’m old and jaded and know the rules, so I play the long game but it’s exhausting. And I vent here to you guys. I’ll fall in line and vote blue, because as things stand today it’s a better option than what we have on the red side. And staying home is not an option for me, too much at stake. Me and my family are not in a statistically good position to ride it out.

Perhaps oddly I like and respect AOC and her squad. They have some growing up to do, but over all i like them.

Bernie is another story. He has proved himself a self centered fraud.

I have zero respect for him.

Maybe more respect than i have for Cadet Bone Spurs... but only a little.

Trump’s xenophobic tweet was as much a veiled attack on Nancy as it was on the freshman Squad. Basically it’s primary attempt was to further discord.

Russian style.

However, as we saw with the subsequent headlines and with AOC’s tweet here, it ended up back on Trump, especially after Nancy, ever so adept at handling Trump, quickly called it for what it is.

Thankfully, starting with the September debates, the field will narrow considerably due to the higher qualifying threshold of 2% polling in three separate polls. Only 5 meet this threshold - the ones you named here, plus Buttigieg.

We also need some of these lower tier guys to drop out and enter Senate races while there is still time, such as O’Rourke.

Trump seems especially threatened by women.

One would think that logic and facts would be enough to support one's political philosophy, but with Trump (relative to women) he always resorts to idiocy and insults.

Greatest crybaby snowflake ever.

Yeah I’m not feeling it so much for Bernie this time around. Like he has decent enough ideas to move the conversation but leading is different.

Granted better than trump, but that’s really not a very high bar.

Too bad a real republican isn’t running. Would be interesting to see him primaried, but I don’t have the ability to vote in that race

Bernie and his base tore apart the Democrats unity in the last election, and I see no signs that AOC or the other freshmen will avoid a repeat. Yes, some of it can be attributed to being fed up with the system, the tea party wasn't the only caucus fed up with Washington, but the much bigger issue is an ideological divide.

I alluded to this in a previous thread where I said that the Dem's Big Tent strategy might be beginning to crush them. The only way that Bernie could cause a tear in the Democrats unity is if his ideas appealed to a significant amount of Democrat voters. Not a majority, but just enough to break the base. If AOC does the same then, as we saw with Bernie, it might not matter how many calls for unity there are after the nomination. If there's enough divergence, for any number of reasons even 'silly' or 'stupid' ones, it will cause a break.
