Apparently, Betsy's flag is used by some white supremacist groups as a logo.

I just got a spam mail from The Daily Grind selling "I Stand With Betsy" t-shirts displaying a form of the flag.

They must be white supremacists.

It is like putting a swastika on the shoe. For some people, it has a bad connotation.

So is the current American flag.

So is the moon.

And the sun.

And a spider.

or dog.

Hell - the word Nike has a negative connotation. I lived within walking distance of a Nike missile site in my childhood.
I want them to change their company name!!!

The point being - ANYTHING can have a bad connotation for some people.

So don't buy the shoes. I'm sure a few tweeters not buying N*** shoes is not going to bust the company.

The swastika symbol used to be the basis of a badge for boy scouts - having a good connotation.

On a TV spot they said he's offended because it represents a time in American history when slavery was accepted.

GMAFB!!

He's starting to sound like the GOPers that are still complaining about Hillary.

Seems extreme.

I think there is a growing Democratic backlash against the “woke” movement. Bill Maher rails against it a lot on his show, and we are also seeing the friction on the front lines with Biden vs. the rest of the front runners.

As I understand it (please forgive my not being 100% sure about this) the flag is / was that of the confederacy during the Civil War, right...?

Personally I have no issue with this..... it's a purely American affair..... but I can see why people would take exception to it.

As a non-interested party my take would be that the flag effectively ceased to exist with the Confederacy when they were defeated. It is defunct. The only reason anybody would want to keep it active is for the purpose of agitation and as a symbol of white supremacy.

I can understand why a lot of people would be offended by that. Even if the racial element could be discarded (which it shouldn't be) surely it is against the spirit of the Union.

If there are two flags, how can you be the UNITED States...?

I don't know the ins and outs of the Nike connection but I can understand why some might boycott them if they are strongly associated with the flag.

We have certain issues here over a flag too.

Wrong flag - you're thinking of this one:

(subject to various borders and sizes)

If that's the case then All Americans should be offended by the British flag and all those Anglophiles are committing Treason!!!

OK, thanks for that. I always thought the stars and bars was a battle flag whereas the one at the OP was the flag of the Confederate States of America. Like, a national flag.

If the flag isn't what I thought it was, then what is it...? I'm genuinely interested to know now.

I'm not sure what you're alluding to about the British Union flag. Something to do with it being included in the State flag of Hawaii perhaps...? Please expand.

Every American state has its own State flag as does the constituent countries of the UK. You use stars to represent each State on the flag of the Union, we merged the national flags of ours into one whole. Both systems achieve the same end.

The flag (re Nike) Is the 1st flag of the USA.... circle of 13 stars with a blue background in upper left-hand corner, and 13 stripes made up of 7 red and 6 white.

The 1st flag of the CSA ( confederate states of America) is very similar but only has three stripes... two red and one white... with circle of stars & blue.

The cross bars with stars is the battle flag of the CSA's Army.

Unrelated side note: Contrary to some peoples' beliefs the red X or crossbars on the Florida flag is not related to the confederacy, but rather is representing the cross of Saint Andrew.

I'm no flag expert .. but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express
(Yankee advert joke)

The OP flag - aka "Betsy Ross" flag was (one of) the first flags of the US. The 13 stars represent the 13 colonies.

I found this Interesting

Re: Offended by Brit Flag - Well, it represents a country that suppressed our colonies, and that we had to fight to be free ...
And the Anglophiles admire our former suppressors.

... irregardless ( ) that my ancestors were somewhere in Europe at the time ...

Other options for the first flag included emblems for the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, but was nixed because they thought it was too "Military".

Space Force I'm pretty sure that was a TV cartoon series...

"Starcom: The U.S. Space Force"

> Cartoons... where Trump gets all his best ideas.

interesting, how America copy other country's culture's ideas. like America coped the colors of British's union jack flag. would been better if America back then, came up with their own colors. you kind of wonder if people are offend by the color or the America flag?

now when, advertisement getting away or take advantage the pride of America. and, American companies use to advantage to sell products. americans let them.
