Gov. Signs Bill

I suppose the extreme thought is anyone opposing this law is supporting child molesters.

The bill would require individuals convicted of such an offense to continue treatments until it is deemed by the court that treatment is no longer necessary.

The part I'm opposed to is the "Required" part - it sounds like a mandatory conviction.
The problem with that is ... we all know how "perfect" our justice system is (NOT!!)

I would not be opposed to that as an optional/allowable sentence, but when you start slamming "mandatory" onto things, you open the door to grave mistakes.

And they mention others have that on the books.

Better to execute a man than strip his masculinity.

Singapore has the answer.

Hmmm child molestation is a form of "masculinity"?

I am not sure castration would work. Sexuality is between the ears not between the legs.

This part until it is deemed by the court that treatment is no longer necessary seems a bit weak.

From the link: Chemical castration involves administering medication -- via tablets or injection -- to take away sexual interest and make it impossible for a person to perform sexual acts. If the person stops taking the drug the effects can be reversed.

So (rhetorical questions to follow).... is the person taking these "tablets or injections" on his own? Or, does he have to go to some doctor (court appointed?) on a weekly/monthly basis? Does the period of taking this castration drug last for the period of "incarceration", "incarceration & parole", "incarceration, parole and some unspecified period of time"? Who decides when the person no longer has to take the drug? A judge, a court appointed doctor, a psychologist or psychiatrist, a parole officer... a court hearing with a jury or board of review of some sort...? What happens if the person has served their time in prison, served his parole, then decides to no show up for his injections? Does that mean he violated parole, which he has already completed? Does that mean he is on parole essentially forever? Is that "cruel and unusual"? etc... etc...

I think that "they" started out with a good idea (sort of) but didn't notice the potential problems.

Side note: I once had a conversation with a psychiatrist, who was (apparently) very knowledgable about the "mental' issues of pedophilia. She said that pedophilia is, from a psychiatric perspective, untreatable.... once a pedophile always a pedophile (Sorry... as is often the case I way over simplified that discussion.) Again, she seemed to be an expert...

If that is true (and I am not saying it is, as I don't know) the no longer necessary part never comes.

Yes... not altogether unlike the death penalty... there have been mistaken convictions... it happens...

I’d probably pair this with the death penalty as cruel and unusual. Just keep them in the slammer if there is fear they will repeat their sins.

What is it that makes a pedophile a pedophile

What is it that makes people lust for redheads?
For >certain body parts<
For leather...
For animals...
For anything we may call a "sexual perversion"?

Societal norms and ethics suppress some people from acting out on their "oddities"
.. or push those actions out of site.

I haven't ventured far off the path of "normal", but I've seen and heard of some pretty weird stuff that I just don't get.

Mr: What is it that makes people lust for redheads?

E: Predilections, as I understand it, are the result of conditioning.

E: That which is considered perversion is dictated by contemporary regional standards of a society.

The effect of harsher penalties for unlawfulness enables a safer society.

They have broken the code I think.

These people are much calmer and nicer too.

For lack of Christian values, Islamic values will do.

Hudud punishment is better than punishment, hudud is the law of Allah. No one can reject the law of Allah. If hudud law is prohibited to inscribe the hard part. And it is not allowed to wring until torn leather.

They're organized and pushing for acceptance.

Once "ageism" is destroyed and society imputes the right of consent to minors, there will be no threshold left.

Life sentences don't help anyone.

The United States is creating a very large sub-class of unempowered citizens who aren't allowed to contribute and aren't being cared for.

Reform or execution.

A "life" sentence is not about "helping" anyone. It is about punishment

That, relative to the punishment of pedophilia, is a meaningless statement.

Yes.

This is the "christian" way... conform or die.

Don't get me wrong... pedophilia is wrong... sexual assault is wrong.

Oddly, however, I don't hear you calling for the execution of the leaders of the Christian churches... leaders who have perpetrated pedophilia and other sexual assaults.

Your position is, at least so far, hypocritical.

Stand up and stand out and call for the "execution" of all who have committed these atrocities... even your church leaders...

Then you will stand out as an honest man.
