There's an advantage to insanity
In fact; at this point in time I believe it is a natural 'Process' as LTP used to promote but not in the sense that we're being forced to blind ourselves to plights of the world by pretending all is good but more-so rebuilding a stronger psyche.
Religious people also refer to it as 'Going on one's Pilgrimage' they realize they are beginning to lose their crackers and need to take an indefinite time away from the man made rat race to sit quietly somewhere and do a lot of thinking.
As children our sanity is spoon-fed to us, we don't have to earn it
but as you realize what is mixed in that spoon-feeding are lot of man-made idealism's that are no longer practical or never were.
I suspect that by 'losing the plot' it allows you to go re scripting that plot using what you know better thereby rebuilding the psyche with stone where as previously it handed to us freely as a glass shelter.
