It was tough for us Gen X'rs

If you don't lie and vote for the same team
Don't lie and say you go to Church
Don't lie and say you support Captialism more than Socialism
Don't lie and tell everyone that you're Superman so have never had
any physical or mental issues during your life
Don't lie and say that you would rather murder twenty innocents to see
the guilty pay for their crime rather than let twenty guilty go free to insure you don't execute the one innocent.

If you don't lie....

......pretending you condone things which you truthfully find very very wrong

Then it's VERY easy to discard your application in a waste basket because there are so many to weed through HR is looking at any excuse to make the pile smaller for themselves.

OK here’s the deal. You have to be desperate enough to change. Social media is an illusion. I’m very sorry to tell you the truth but I just don’t love you. And I’m damn well convinced that you do not love me. You have no idea who I am and I have no idea who you are. And that’s OK. The best part about it is real life is so much better and the people who fought the Nazis and lived and died by their faith in their God and their guns Are no different than you and me and are no different than those snotty little generation Xers that can’t do nothing. Work hard arduous painful agonizing work. It’s all about work and desperation. If you’re desperate and you’re willing to work and make huge deep sacrifices, you may survive.

Would I have to lie about being a blood sucking weirdo, or confess my desires to eat red meat rather than murdering innocent vegetables in their garden beds.

LOL.....

When I took my first interview after graduating in 2005, the very first thing the interviewer said to me was "OK, so you've got an honours degree. I've got twenty other newly graduated applicants with one of those. What else have you got..?"

This somewhat took me aback and I don't think I handled it very well.

I didn't get the job.

Here in UK, my generation (born in the 1980's) were once labelled "Thatcher's Lost Generation."

The wisdom of that time was that we would grow up under the rule of the heartless, cruel Margaret Thatcher (stole milk from the mouths of babes when she was Education Secretary) and our future was indeed, bleak. But we somehow survived and prospered.

I can only speak for what happens here, but I'm sure things are no less tough in UK in comparison to the US. And you haven't got Brexit waiting to destroy your country..!!

I'm starting to look into my post "Stay At Home Mum" time. I want to be back at work within the next two years. It's not going to be easy. I've been out of the loop since 2012 and in a profession that moves very swiftly, that's a long way to fall behind.

I wish I could go back to the profession I worked so hard to qualify in, was good at and enjoyed very much. But that probably isn't an option so I'll have to diversify.

I have other strings to my bow.

Good luck to anybody who is looking for work. There is no doubt that it's tough out there, but faint heart never won fair battle. Go for it. Put what you have to offer out there and make it work for you.

Be honest. Be yourself. If an employer turns you down because of your principles then the arsehole wasn't worth working for anyway. It's his loss.

Good luck.

...another day to work and make huge deep sacrifices

Yuck.

But it's no longer even a matter of not taking crow from 'The Man' like the hippies complained about. Back then there were actually jobs.

Nowadays Capitalism has top-sided because there are 2000 perfect employees for every single job opening one can think of.

Another century from now and you're going to have to go through a reality show just to be considered by KFC.

Basically in order to be considered for work among smaller populations (this doesn't apply to people in California where the pop is so large and everyone is so open-minded that you should be able to find a niche and get employed rather quickly) people you meet are going to ask you what church you go to or are you a sports fan, do you want to help them mock some philanthropic snowflakes, go take a crap out front of green peace and pull the rug out from under a few transies, they're going to ask which Republican you vote for and so on and so forth.

You have only two options: agree to root for and make fun of everyone and everything they do or just don't give them that social time at all but the later option could be just as destructive if as if you stood up for blacks, gays and poor people.

If you don't pretend to be in mind with the majority then it is very very very easy to drop you application for employment in the trash bin.

A lot of the people who encouraged suppression during the sixties are still alive and passing their prejudices and ignorance's off on their kids - a lot of Generation X is just as selfish and un-accepting as their fathers before them.

What started this post was watching a Jeremy Kyle show where Kyle was going at a British guy in his late teens about not having work.

And immediately I thought 'What work?'

I know UK has to be worse off that both the States and NZ.

I've had lots of different jobs, some I got fired from but many others I was laid off from as well a few I quit.

And while working for those places I've seen many people get terminated or had unfair hours or tasks given to them to train-track them out the door because my employer couldn't afford them.

Capitalism died with the 80's; from the 90's forwards the number of people seeking work VS actual jobs available became unbalanced to the point of absurdity.

I don't believe everyone should adopt Communism but I do think it's time that many start considering alternative templates salad-picking ideas from other nations.
