Not sure I understand the poll on this one...

We’re not going heavy this time. Too much darkness all the time.

I was on the fence regarding which sub forum to put this in. Could have chosen political, religion, or other.

But now here we have an opportunity to mull over basic questions about state sovereignty v human dignity. If I’m a rich overlord of a small island, do I impose shariah as a message to my son? Do I listen to George Clooney (horrible Batman that!!)?

The poll is really a question on which direction you want your scrot twisted.

Ha ha just goofing

(No not goofin but need plausible deniability so as not to violate terms of service).

What I'm saying is that I don't understand for sure what the possible answers to the poll are supposed to represent. I chose "lefty loosey" on the assumption that the left and right were referring to the political spectrum. When it comes to gay rights, I lean to the left. When it comes to stoning people to death who haven't really done anything wrong, I lean to the "against it" side. Whatever side that is.

As far as state sovereignty vs human dignity...that's a whole 'nother ball o' wax.

Tough nut to crack, but the best I can do with a few minutes of thinking about it in this case is that if someone down my street owns his house, what he does in that house is up to him. Until he starts carving up people inside it. Then, it's a different ball o' wax and a different nut.

I dunno how the difference of venue (entire other country with its own laws versus a house within jurisdiction of our laws) plays into the question without more thought.

Either way, I don't agree with those laws. What, if anything, to do about it is a different question.

Once we get to the One World Gov't this won't be a problem.

But those damn British are trying to thwart it with their Brexit-mania ... go figure

Your choice of words that are the two choices in your poll have nothing to do with anything other then when applying a wrench to a nut or bolt , it's righty tighty and lefty loosely. Except when the nut ,bolt or coupling is copper or brass then its right loosens and left tightens.
Its the way young people have been taught to change a tire, remove and replace auto parts or tractor parts or wind mill parts .. .since the nut/bolt/wrench was invented.

On topic of this thread, our government , the community , society needs to
stay out of peoples bedrooms . As long as whatever is happening in the bedroom is between consenting adults .

I still use it when I'm working on cars some 30 years after it was first said to me.

Well, Islamophobia and homophobia are now doing battle like Godzilla and Megalon. We create little subterfuges for our satisfaction but Polynesian theocrats aren't asking us what we think. Do we export American culture to the people who aren't asking for it?

I was assuming that he was referring to the Sultan of Brunei, the Brunei form of government, and Brunei's recent decision that homosexuality can be punished by stoning. But maybe I am wrong.

Brunei's form of government is "reportedly" a constitutional monarchy.

However, there are no elections; the members of parliament have been in place since the 60's and the Sultan has complete executive authority. That is, Brunei is essentially a dictatorship... i.e. Brunei is a country run by an authoritarian government which has some government institutions that mimic democratic governments.

Brunei legal system is supposedly "based on English common law, although Islamic shariah law supersedes this in some cases." Many Muslim countries do this sort of thing; western based legal system with Islamic influence... in varying degrees.

Considering that Brunei's government is authoritarian, the "left" vs "right" thing really isn't applicable.

So, Righty Tighty vs Lefty Lucy >>>> Neither.

Oh no! What happened to the sultan? Did Raja finally eat him? Jasmine's gonna be devastated when she hears the news. Tiger, why's your distant cousin so damn bloodthirsty?

Also, quick question: How come there isn't a third option for people who don't lean to either side politically, because the current political systems in place don't do s*** except stick crayons up their asses and slowly kill us all with their incompetence/greed/corporate bj-ing?

Oh yeah, I got that...left and right don't really translate in terms of "the gubment over there." I was assuming the poll was asking what someone's specific views on the issue are in terms of a western perspective which is, after all, the only one I can really experience personally.

But I don't disagree with anything you're saying here.
