BBC Clip - Anti Brexit March In Central London

An estimated two million people marched through London today, from Park Lane and Hyde Park to Westminster, demanding a second referendum on Brexit or for Article 50 to be revoked.

Add to this an online petition on the government website that has accumulated nearly 4 million signatures in around a day and a half.

News is breaking tonight that a Conservative Party coup is about to remove Theresa May and there are even indications that a little known MP by the name of David Lidlington, who has never held an office of State or even a Cabinet position is being lined up to replace her. The only thing we know about him at this time is that he is an ardent remainer. These reports are unconfirmed at this time.

We would have been in London today, but it's my father in law's birthday and we've been in St Austell all evening at his bash. I think the march hasn't missed our participation too much

Support for Brexit hasn't completely collapsed in the country because there is still a hard core of support, but with the political situation being what it is and the consequences of going ahead with it becoming more apparent by the day, large swathes of people are finally waking up to what the effect of this national disaster will mean to them personally.

The only thing preventing a second referendum now is Theresa May herself, and the hard-line European Research Group within the Conservative Party who have tremendous influence.

But what government could ignore the events of today....?? Anybody claiming that "We had a vote in 2016" is simply blind to the fact that that vote is no longer the will of the people.

the difference between America and London, in America, this march will probably some violence in it, we still need to learn the word: mature!

The remain marches and events have been marked by their almost 'carnival' atmosphere, peacefulness and even good humour considering what's at stake.

Leavers, on the other hand have been the almost exact opposite.

Nigel Farage attempted to create the 1930's Jarrow Crusade where unemployed workers from the north of England marched to London for jobs. The Farage march has been mockingly dubbed "The Gammonball Run".

He promised (his words) "Tens of thousands" would join. Around 300 turned up. When they gathered in Sunderland for the start, an elderly woman walking her dog stopped to make some video with her mobile phone. A man mistook her for some sort of spook, walked over to her and punched her to the ground to stop her filming.

The video of the incident has since been taken down by Facebook.

Farage's "Tens of thousands" set off from Sunderland

Most have given up along the route. Around 50 or so are still walking.

The woman who started the Petition which is gathering so many signatures has received death threats which the police are taking seriously. A constable is now very visibly posted outside her house round the clock now as a deterrent.

Estimated by who exactly? The organisers? The figures I have read (from organisers) puts the figure at up to ONE million...and it's not as if they don't have a track record of significantly overestimating their crowd numbers. But you say TWO million. Just curious where that figure comes from. I'm sure you'll concede there is a significant difference btw one and two million.

Estimated by the police actually. And if you don't believe it (which you won't because you don't believe anything that doesn't square with your pommie bashing agenda) you can check out the video which actually doesn't show the entire crowd. It cuts off at Hyde Park Corner at the junction with Park Lane and you don't get to see Hyde Park completely swamped with people.

By the way, the petition has now reached 4'993'006 signatories in just over 36 hours.

Of course nobody wants Brexit revoked, do they...? Oh, I forgot... you live on the other side of the world and know everything that's happening here, right..? I'm just a f***ing British citizen whose country is being torn apart in front of my very eyes so I obviously know nothing.

Make that 4,993,902 in the time it took me to type that paragraph.

The Petition

Do your own research you lazy bastard. I'm fed up with bending over backwards to just be f***ed about by you.

You're never going to accept anything and if I did what you wanted you'd only deny it anyway.

So simply asking you to provide any sort of evidence for your claims is you being f***ed about is it?

YOU claim that the POLICE estimate there were 2 million marchers. I have searched the net and can't find any official source to back that claim up, but i have come across MANY sources stating that the MPS have NOT released ANY estimate on crowd numbers. I was however giving you the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to provide a link to an official source.

No, I am not like you. You show me where the MPS have OFFICIALLY put the crowd numbers at 2 million and I will accept that what you posted earlier re crowd numbers was correct. Simple.

It's obviously disturbing that ANYONE should be receiving death threats but I'm sure you wouldn't be so stupid as to suggest that people like Farage, Johnson, JRM etc do not get death threats from remainers.

I found this on the MET's official website regarding crowd estimates...

"MPS do not currently record or release actual or estimated attendance figures, and have no policy in place around attendance figures.

The MPS have no Policy in place around releasing attendance figures. The MPS very rarely - if ever - give estimated crowd numbers for demos."

Note, the above was an official response to a FOI request re the HCT march in 2017. If however their policy has changed and they have, as YOU claim, released an official estimate for the latest remain march I would like to see it. You have no problem posting a link to a petition so surely it wouldn't take much effort to post a link to an official MPS crowd estimate.

The Met frequently put crowd numbers out on the BBC or any news service that asks for them. FOI requests??? Do me a favour. They take so long to process that any request made today would probably get released some time after the end of the football season.

If you ever emerged from the bush and came out into the big wide world you might understand that people engaged in public services are usually happy to wink at rules from time to time for the sake of good public relations.

London sees many public events and the police put out crowd estimates on the air all the time, regardless of what their website says. Notting Hill Carnival..... FA Cup Final..... London Gay Pride March..... you name it, the Old Bill will quite happily tell any roving reporter, camera crew or radio microphone how many people they estimate there are. It's called "public service".

THE FOLLOWING IS NOT HOW IT HAPPENS:

Interviewer: "Well, Chief Constable, the sun is out, the happy clappy parade is winding it's way through the streets and everybody is having a really good time. How many people do you estimate are here today for this event?"

Met PR Officer: "I refer you to our website which gives the official police policy on the release of statistical information. if you want a freedom of information release you should apply through the usual channels."

That might be how things work in your spider and snake infested desert, but it doesn't happen here. The police are keen to co-operate with the media. Regardless of what the website might say.

You'll never accept anything that doesn't sit comfortably with your anti-pom hate agenda so I'll go no further than that. The rozzer in the crowd control unit said it was an estimated 2 million and I'll take that. if you don't like it, tough s***.

If I were to tell you that in the last half hour, Phillip Hammond, the Chancellor of the Exchequer has been interviewed on TV, you would demand a link. But no such link exists because not EVERY interview, review or comment becomes part of the feed. He was followed by Caroline Lucas the leader of the Green Party. She isn't on the news feed either.

If I told you the sun comes up in the east you'd find some petty little niggling way of saying it isn't true.

The petition is now up to nearly 5.3 million. It's slowing down a little now, but that was expected. Argue with that.

Meanwhile.... the Germans are enjoying themselves making a mockery of Britain. We really have become figures of fun all over the continent.

I never met a German I didn't like and as much as this sort of thing hurts, I can see where they're coming from.

The Petition

I think we can all agree that no one on planet earth really really deep down wants Great Britain to fall apart.

I believe that regardless of what happens the good people of that region will band together and do what's best to keep on keeping on. Happy little children happy smiley faces.

Lastly, things could be worse so yes please count your blessings.

The man we Americans have as president is causing such incredible shame and embarrassment to us (really the world). No one can stand him not even his deluded supporters. I'm sure he and his subhuman goons will be indicted and all be in prison before the week is out.

But there's Brexit (not derailing the thread). So chin up. A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.
