So these dumbasses got involved in a criminal conspiracy to get their kids in the elite Universities.... some paying in the range of $200,000 to $6 million.

I'm pretty sure if you donate hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions of dollars (not counting the admission/tuition fees), those schools would find a way to admit your child.

OMGoodness! People aren't perfect like you. What things we do, well, not you, you're perfect.

I would buy a Library for a college to get my kid in there if I had to. Not that I could though.

Oh, the shade here.

You are absolutely right.
Many people are not like me. I don't cheat and I have integrity.

I don't have money to buy my child's way into college - and I wouldn't even if I did.

He earned his scholarship with grades and test scores - that HE took.

Some people appreciate things more when they earn those accomplishments - rather than just handed to them.

One of those ditzes even said she's there for the parties, and doesn't really care about school.

Actually working for a college, I’d tell someone trying to bribe their way in to pound sand.
Ethics are a thing, and many schools along with active shooter training and for safety training, make it clear this s*** is illegal and not to be done.

So even if the parents are willing to throw money around, it shouldn’t work. And it seems like it’s more than just the dude running the charity and the test taking and the photo doctoring. Officials at USC were in on it!
That’s the disterbing part.
It goes way past the aunt Becky memes. Lori and felicity are the face of the parents but the real scandal is how far the schools were in on it.

That should piss everyone off, as many of them were mishandling state and federal money as well. Even if not directly, they were as school officials. Even in “private” schools state and federal money is involved.

Those are legacy admits. Every school has them too. Some give extra consideration to kids of alumni. It’s still sleezy but not illegal, as people aren’t lying and falsifying records. Colleges can and do let in academics weak students for various reasons. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn’t. The thinks the schools risk are there graduating stats and ranking. Which may be worth it, as some students given an opportunity will excel.
Or their privilege will make it appear like they excelled.

I'm actually totally cool with the kids of alumni and also kids of people who are willing to make massive donations.

I just get a kick out of people paying massive amounts of money to cheat on SATs or fake athletic credentials.

I mean, why lie when you can just pay money legitimately to get what you want?

If I had the money and was willing to pay a million dollars to Yale to have them accept my son, the conversation would go like this...

Chaski - Ok so I'm going to give you (Yale) a $1 million donation.

Yale - Wow! Thanks Mr Chaski! You're fantastic

Chaski - There is one "hitch"

Yale - Of course there is

Chaski - I want you to accept my son at Yale

Yale - Does he have the grades?

Chaski - No, he's a moron.

Yale - Ok so what we do is have your son go to a small college for a year. Then apply the next year. We'll accept him as a transfer student. We do have criteria for 1st year acceptance... you know SATs, GPA, etc. which all affect our national ranking... but those things don't apply to transfer students... tell your son to take basket weaving and don't fail... then he's in like Flinn

Chaski - Super Cool!

Yale - Oh... we never had this conversation

Chaski - You mean the conversation about how I want you're football team to kick Harvard's ass?

Yale - We're looking forward to having you son become a Yale student

Not only would I not pay to have any of my kiddies go to university, I actively discouraged them from going. Universities, like schools, no longer offer anything of value. If the important people want to waste millions of dollars gaining a chance to obtain a worthless degree for a pampered child who places no value on education anyway, I say "let them."

I think another reason why so fascinated with this is I worked my a** off for my almost full ride scholarship. Not just to get it but to keep it and finish in 4 years because my parents couldn’t afford to help for that extra semester. And yet still be told I only got in because I’m Hispanic/Latina.

And even to be told in the past month I’ve got to be a diversity hire and f***ing grilled if I have the qualifications to actually be a librarian.
All to answer a question the user could have done herself, if she cared to learn how.
Which basically means she didn’t need to grill me on my “qualifications” she was just being a c***.
(Also, not just her having a bad day, she’s a regular and always awful, in various ways of awful to different people.)

So, I think it's more complicated than that.

Somebody please correct me here but I think it goes beyond parents paying for their kids college. There's some kind of fraud involved.
