Going back more than ten years now, scientists in the US and Holland have been trying to create a deadly human pathogen from avian influenza (HPA1). Yep.... there is a programme to turn bird flu, which does not normally infect people into a human flu.

You won't be surprised to know that many scientists (myself included) are totally opposed to this. In 2014 a group of scientists created The Cambridge Working Group and signed a document warning of the dangers of this research. Hundreds of academics at US and European universities signed it.

Later in 2014 the US government called for a pause in this dreadfully dangerous research. The National Institute of Health (NIH) Director at the time said his agency would study risks and benefits before proceeding further.

We now discover that the NIH has been quietly allowed the research to start again from an article in Science Magazine.

When I first heard about this I thought it was going to be one of those mis-reports of research to establish the risk/possibility of particular strains mutating and crossing species, but to deliberately create it to (so they say) stockpile vaccines is utterly daft because those stockpiles wouldn't be necessary if they didn't create their new deadly strain in the first place.

Then of course the effectiveness of any vaccine would be dependent on their strain being the same or similar enough to any real strain that does somehow cross the divide without extensive manipulation.

Researching risk and prevention - good. Creating deadly plague, not good.

Well they have to use something like HPA1... Ebola runs its course too quickly.

Enh, if you remember my Agent Smith analogy; if the scientists manage to wipe out all human life they might actually save us.

Earth will survive, without humans.

Life on earth will thrive without humans.

Humans are a temporary part of the equation.

None the less it is a bit sad that humans have been so good at destroying nature... but this will one day pass.

So if there is a "Creator", do you think he learned anything?

I am not sure what learned means. (here comes the but) The creator, as I see it, learns from trial and error (another but) But the creator does not store information.

Does not store information? Say's who?

Then what's the point?

Or in what context?

Mike: The creator learns from trial and error
The creator does not store information.

Mr. Does not store information? Say's who?

Mike: Says I.

Mr. Then what's the point?

Mike: Pointless, utterly pointless

Mr. in what context?

Mike: Creating, creator, creation

Then how does the creator know how to create if he retains no information?

Will the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta keep this pathogen? Seems like something they would do.

I think I read somewhere about a theory that the dinosaurs induced climate change through their over-consumption of vegetation, and their resulting production of methane.

I read an article in scientific American years ago, how cows reduces carbon dioxide by consumption of too much vegetation that causing price of milk products prices higher. the drought and short of the yeast that cows eat.

Mike: The creator does not know anything. The creator creates the reality that is experienced. Creation is a process

Mike: Well the monkeys are on lap tops.

Mike: yes existence is an event. Every moment (perceptible interval) is composed of trillions of imperceptible instants.
