"GOP senators want assurances Trump will sign deal"

Why should they care if he will or won't?

If the house and senate pass the deal, isn't that sending Trump a message?

McConnell, apparently, says that Trump will sign the bill and then declare a national emergency.... and McConnell supports this.

A Newt!!!

There is an endangered species of Newt that lives on the US-Mexico border, and that is it's only habitat.

If a wall is built the species will go extinct.

Save the Newt! Save the Newt!

.. or something like that

And now not the wall.

But now begins the legal battles and (probably more legislative battles) over the wall.

From the bill that Trump just signed >

Looks like Trump just ruined his own chance to build the wall with his emergency declaration... or at least ruined the underlying purpose of the wall.

Note: I confess that I have not yet verified this picture.

I'm not sure I see the connection between this page and a wall.

This is where they defund separating children from families

Blocking the use of fund by DHS relative to detention, removal proceedings against either the child or "a sponsor, potential sponsor or member of a household of a sponsor or potential sponsor..." pretty much undermines the very purpose of the wall. I see that line as a gapping loop-hole in immigration law.

But that is just my opinion.

Well, a wall would keep both of them out - the child and the guardian.

And wasn't the "separation" thing happening to families entering to ask for asylum?

How To Win

You: Ask for 5 apples
Them: Offered 1.6 apples
You: Refuse
Them: All Offers off the table
You: Throw a Tantrum
Them: Offered 1.2 peaches
You: Accept!

You: "I Win!!"

Actually the evidence suggests otherwise.

Yes.

However, once a law is in place it may be applied broadly.

President Bush learned this. I am going to go light on the details here, but he (& Congress) passed a law to protect children from sex trafficking. The wording of the law was just vague enough to one day bloom in the the battle over DACA.

I think that instead of asking for a wall, Trump should instead be focusing on, oh I don't know...

Connecting the more than 100 already-existing mini-walls along the US-Mexico border?

I mean yeah, there's the really big walls near the official border crossings, but then there's also the ones that regular people, or the border patrol, or homeowners living near the border have put up as well. Walls that stretch for a good 10-30 feet across and then just... stop. And then half a mile in either direction, you see some other wall/fence set up, sometimes closer/further from the border than the wall you just saw. And there's a good 300 foot gap between the last wall and this one, so it's not really doing its job.

Also there's the 'wall' in New Mexico that's literally just a 3 foot tall sheep fence going for about a mile or two, so there's that. Texas has a few large sheets of metal sticking out of the ground in some places, which I think are supposed to be the walls, just not attached to other walls/poles. Why not just try to connect the already-existing walls and demolish the less-than-effective ones?

That way, after they push the first person over, they can peek around and see if they are alright, and it's safe for the next one.

Also, if someone does get hurt, they can quickly get to them to apply first aid.
