Last year a prominent feminist was invited to address year 7-8 students at a co-ed school. She basically spent 15 mins explaining why males are the scum of the earth and how the only way they could be any less s***e was by trying to be more like females. She then took questions. The first two questions were from girls which she answered. A boy then tried to ask a question but she shut him down and announced that she would only be accepting questions from girls.

This may help prove that people can have horrible mentalities.

You're right, though I also think it's a by product of people/groups who seek to ascribe particular characteristics (be they good or bad) to people based on their gender, race, religion etc. It is also a by product of the ever pervasive victim mentality where certain people/groups are very strongly encouraged to blame any situation/outcome that they deem to be less than desirable on a specific demographic.

APA Guidelines "Toxic Masculinity"

If anyone is curious to what they are saying. Here it is.

I skimmed through it and I have to honestly ask, was this about toxic masculinity specifically? This seemed more like a guideline in understanding traditionally male culture and thinking and it's potential applications in relation to therapy. I mean is that what we're defining as toxic masculinity in this context? All of traditionally male culture and social pressure?

I always find myself in a weird situation in these types of debates. On the one hand I don't hold the view that some things are sacred or taboo or shouldn't be said. In that respect I fall on the side of the anti-PC. On the other hand, I don't believe that saying things should have no consequence. If you say or do something that another person views as unacceptable they are perfectly within their rights to let you know and take any other actions, short of physical violence, in accordance with those views. In that respect, I fall very much on the side of the PC.

My take on it is another label to throw around and divide people.

It starts as accusatory and derogatory, then a diagnosed condition, then us "TM'ers" can claim disability, equal rights, and protection laws!

- She can't fire me because I have TM!!

Considering how the Right views mental conditions already, I'm not entirely sure that they'd want to go that route. Then again the Right has always been about 'rules only everyone else has to follow and not me', so maybe they'll make a special consideration in their party for people someday diagnosed with TM and leave everyone else who has a mental condition out in the cold.

Basically, many traits within "traditional masculinity" are now considered toxic masculinity.

Aye, so say the APA and it's all BS.

As an aside the APA have hardly covered themselves with glory for most of their existence.

This isn't an left, or right thing. This is an issue with members of the APA, society and a PC agenda.

Though in this case the PC agenda is very much from the left.

Fake news. Toxic masculinity isn’t real. Society needs strong masculine men.

All humans have good and bad traits. Why is it bad it call out the bad things as something people should work on to adjust?
It doesn't mean all masculinity is bad, just parts of it cause problems, and maybe those problems should be addressed.

Correct. ALL HUMANS have good and bad traits. Toxic masculinity doesn't relate to all humans, but mainly towards males. There is nothing wrong with suggesting someone should work on some things. As it was stated this is something created through a political agenda that was placed over science.
