Lindsey Graham, senior United States Senator from South Carolina:

"I see no way forward," Graham told CNN's Sarah Mucha Thursday afternoon after the collapse of the skeleton of a deal he was working on with a handful of other GOP senators. "I was hopeful last night, not hopeful today."

Note: Graham has been in Congress for 24 years. Ten (10) of those years were in the H.R. and the other 14 years have been in the Senate.

The fact that Graham "can see no way forward" is ridiculous... it means that he doesn't even understand the basics of getting legislation passed. (I feel sorry for the great state of South Carolina. )

Aside from the fact that the present H.R.'s border security plan is virtually the same as the Senate's plan in 2018, Congress doesn't need the president to enact legislation.

YES, is it easier to enact legislation when the president agrees, but the present Congress could likely come up with a plan that would have enough votes to override a presidential veto.

I don't know... maybe Graham is afraid the Trump won't invite him to play golf any more.

Note:

"We" already have something like 700+ miles of fences ("barriers"... peaches....), which is do to a (mostly) bipartisan bill signed by President Bush ("W" ) and supported by President Obama.

The result: The few immigrants that wanted to walk across the border picked a different route. Drug dealers kept smuggling drugs through the ports of entry (its easier).

The DHS therefore decided a few years ago that security based on personnel and high tech made more sense than barriers.

AND... however gradually... there has been a reduction in illegal alien border crossing ("all time low" ).

SO WHAT CHASKI!?

The "so what" is that "we" have already visited this border "barrier" (call it a wall... call it a fence... call it peaches...) and determined that the most practical and efficient method was NOT a border barrier... it was... IS... trained human beings supported by technology.

Of course as a flaming liberal troll I want an inefficient wall that will cost lots of money, be a waste of time, not stop immigrants, not stop drugs, so I can feed my socialist agenda...

So you're calling walls medieval.
Wheels are medieval - in fact they're older than walls...
And wheels are still used - on the most modern cars.

a couple of days ago, on the internet, the article if you go to hardware store to buy a handsaw, you cut a giant hole in the new border wall from either side. mexico offers a big proposal to home depot to put a chain of their stores in mexico.

home depot could make fortune off mexico. on the side of the mexico, they have a dozen stores for Mexicans. on the side of the new wall: " welcome to America, first 10,000 customers get a free saw and a free smoothie!".

Do we get a rebate on federal taxes based on how long the gov't is shut down?

For instance if 15% of the gov't is shut down for 10% of the year, we should get a 1.5% rebate.

If my cable goes out and is unusable due to their "technical difficulties", I can call and get a discount on my bill.

The other day I was reading about all these people that are helping government workers with money and food...

...and I thought, wouldn't it be great if Americans all got together paid for all these government workers...

...then I thought, wait... we already do that... it's call taxes.....

But on a serious note:

I don't understand why the salaries of government employees is even part of the debate.

1. We know that we have "X" number of government employees.

2. We know that they make "Y" amount of salary.

>>> This really isn't up for negotiation nor debate. The money for their salaries is a done deal.

Now, if we want to reduce the number of federal employees, or cut back their supplies, or cut their travel...cut their training...etc... these things are negotiable.

Reduction in work force can be done by attrition, so those hiring $ are up for debate; do we fund new employees or reduce staff by attrition?

And the various supplies, travel, training.... again... these are flexible (to a point).

This shutting down the government thing is ridiculous... politicians have decided hold government employees at ransom for their pet projects: In this case Trump and his idiot wall.

I am not a fan of Pelosi, but I hope she doesn't back down... Trump needs a lesson in Government 101.

The shutdown will end soon. It has to.

Even if TSA employees can’t strike, they can quit their jobs, which they will do it this drags on for too long. They have bills to pay even if the government doesn’t want to pay their own bills. And good luck on recruiting replacements. “Job positions open! You’ll be working for free though. We don’t know when you’ll get paid.”

Mass ghosting will lead to longer airport lines and flight cancellations, which will lead to airline and private businesses losses and angry travelers.

And if anyone listens to business interests, it’s the Republicans.

Sooner or later....

Trump had a rough agreement with congress, but is apparently Rush, Anne and his base, so backed out.

At this point I don't see Pelosi caving... she's probably prepared to compromise, but I don't see her accepting this $5.7 billion number. IF she does accept this number (a number that the GOP Senate didn't like a month ago), then her career is over for all practical purposes.

If Trump caves, he is a lame duck president... he's pretty much backed himself in a corner.

Trump could have been like Reagan and gone for a number closer to 1/2 or 3/4 what he wants and walked away a "winner", but now it will look like he was beaten by Pelosi.

If I were her, I would hold out for McConnell and publicly put the blame on him. Congress doesn't need the President, they can override his veto. if they work together.

Of course the witch hunt might resolve the entire mss... but I doubt it.

I'm betting on 30 more days of shut down.

Though I will be happy to be wrong.

Sort of like republicans' and conservatives' never ending whining and sniveling about Obama and Hillary for literally the last 10 years...

Uh... i mean 10 years and counting as republicans and conservatives continue to rage against both Obama and Hillary every day.

New Year's Resolutions for republicans & conservatives: Stop crying about Obama, he isn't president any more... stop whining about Hillary, she lost the election.

It is impossible to have a discussion ,debate or argument with a Trump fan without they bring Obama or one/both of the Clinton's up. It is very annoying.

The last conversation that I had with a Trump fan, the guy did this ....but Obama.... but Hillary...

My reply was, "I'm not going to lie to you. I swear to god that I won't. Obama is no longer President. Hillary lost the 2016 Election.I'm not going to lie to you, I swear this it the truth. She lost."

I was called a "lib-tard".
