Something tells me we’re no longer going to get any more military members to receive the mantle of Sec of Defense.

There are still a few flag officers out there that would take the job. Whether or not they are as good or qualified as Mattis is the question.

We've had numerous Sec Def's who were civilians. Granted most had at least some level of military service in their lives, typically when they were young.

Ultimately Trump won't care either way. He wants a yes man and there are plenty of those out there. Some probably believe they can work with Trump to get him to do the right thing. Some don't care and will only want the title. Some probably love him and think he is making America great again (think Flynn).

For whatever reason Trump is being very erratic and (seemingly) irrational on a variety of issues. If he wins (or appears to win) this government shut down thing, he will go into the last two years of his administration in a fairly strong position. If not... he could well be a lame duck for these next two years.

In either case, it is likely Trump will appoint one or more supreme court justices, which was the goal of the Republican party all along. He will be able to claim success and will continue to claim to be the greatest president ever.

Now... if the economy tanks (and many are starting to think it will), his presidency will end pretty poorly. Of course he will blame Democrats (and probably Republicans as well... its always someone else's fault).

US envoy in ISIS fight, Brett McGurk, resigns over US withdrawal from Syria

McGurk "It would be reckless if we were just to say, 'Well, the physical caliphate is defeated, so we can just leave now.' I think anyone who's looked at a conflict like this would agree with that."

Good riddance... probably a democrat anyway...

Edit/Addition: To be fair the Cadet, McGurk was probably leaving in February 2019 anyway, so maybe he just wanted some Andy Wahol time.

the s***head declared in a video released on Twitter (last month): "We have won against ISIS. We've beaten them and we've beaten them badly. We've taken back the land and now it's time for our troops to come back home."

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion that killed US service members in the Syrian city of Manbij on Wednesday.

ISIS

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation. Vice President Mike Pence has also been briefed, according to a tweet from his press secretary.

Pence made no mention of the attack or the deaths of US service members while making remarks at the Global Chiefs of Mission conference at the US State Department Wednesday, claiming "The caliphate has crumbled, and ISIS has been defeated."

Pay no attention to the bodies in the bags.

On a news bit yesterday, the reporter was saying US service members are pretty much saying "We're Sorry" to the Kurds for abandoning them.

Kurds knew we could not be trusted. They have been preparing for this day. They are very used to our lies. They are truly great warriors.
