D’Arcy Short has pulverised the banana benders with a double ton in their one day fixture. Short brought up his ton in 83 balls and his double century in just 128. In the end he was stumped for 257 off 148 deliveries.

Hell of an effort by the boys to deny Pakistan victory in the first test. For most of the match Pakistan were clearly on top and by the time each side had batted their seemed to be only one team that could win it.

Set a hugely improbable target on a wearing Asian pitch Australia looked to be long odds to survive. But in the 2nd innings they showed something that has been missing under such circumstances for quite some time...and that was genuine determination (and fight).

Khawaja was the standout. His track record outside of Australia is extremely modest (to be generous) and in Asia it's shocking. Personally I have never really been a Khawaja fan. There has never been any doubting his talent but he has given a lot of reasons to doubt his maturity and determination. In this test however he was a picture of concentration and his 2nd innings knock will live long in the memory. He showed the sort of steely determination that was a trademark of his new coach. Hopefully his performances in this test signal a turning point for Khawaja. Hopefully he fulfills his undoubted talent.

I reckon it's fair enough by Victoria not to open with Finch just because the national selectors have chosen him as an opener. The Sheffield Shield still means something and shouldnt simply be seen as a practice match for test players/test hopefuls

Harris failed in the first innings but at least Finch and Handscomb got some runs.

The first test has always been played at the Gabba. Hard to understand how CA allowed the BCCI to insist that not only would there be no d/n test but that the series would open at the AO. Obviously money talks. Would have been nice though for CA to have said that as hosts it is our right to decide when and where the tests are held. No other countries try the outrageous bs that the BCCI constantly pull.

Pleased to see that Chris Gayle has been awarded AUD $300k in damages after he won a defamation case against Fairfax. Papers are way too quick to publish allegations against people based solely on the say so of one or two individuals.

Truly ridiculous that Sharma was bowling no ball after no ball and yet he was VERY rarely called.

I think Finch's decision also showed yet again why technology should only be in the hands of umpires. None of the technology showed that Finch touched the ball and yet according to Lyon the 3rd umpire said the evidence was inconclusive and so the umpire's decision would have stood.

If any Australian player carried on like Kohli and some of his team mates (eg send offs) they would be mercilessly crucified in mainstream and social media. But the Indians as ever are given a free pass no matter what they do.

That said, other than sending off batsman, I don't really have an issue with the behaviour of the Indians (accepting that you only hear 2-3% of what they say). Even the last session yesterday was alright. Mind you, the pommy sheila commentating took umbrage to a perceived sarcastic gesture by Paine that she thought was out of order. Apparently sarcasm is a big no no.
