Photographing nature is, to me, super interesting.

With a powerful lens one can do it from a distance.

Sometimes, you need a powerful lens.

Still, to really get the good shots, if even you can, you need to get down and dirty.

You need to embrace insects crawling in your hair... even if your subject isn't insects.

etc

Or you can just get a stuffed critter from the nature center and take a snapshot.

Yes.

That is an alternative that relieves one from removing ticks, chiggers, fleas, lice, leaches and other disgusting creatures from ones body.

in 60's. when I was a little boy watching " nature " on pbs on saturday nights at 7-8.

I remember an episode of anthills. it was soo cool how tall the anthill were like four or five feet made of mud, and little holes outside the hill, from the ground to the top.

all sudden , you see an anteater starts sniffed around the bottom and the middle where the hole on the anthill.

the cool part, they put the camera inside the hill, and you watch a big tongue started licking of ants inside and the tongue inside the anteater's mouth.

you kind of felt sorry ants getting eaten up. it still cool see it.

Isn't this part of the fun though? getting down and dirty with the beasties like we did when we were kids.

in my middle teens in summers, since I was little kid. like I watching ants crawling on the sidewalks and in the dirt. how they seems like have no care in the world. ants pick three times more than size, it is kind of amazing to watch.

I like watching bees polluting flowers, and move to the next flower. grasshoppers - how far they fly through the grass. flies - no care you are , flying on tell you so you are human - get out away, sucker! land on you body, I am here to stay- have a nice day! flies are annoying, somewhat, interesting to watch.

even today, if I have time, I have a change to step on an insect! I do! ( twilite , that not funny! ) there is no age limit, you need to be enjoy surround of beauty - take time to watch the beauty of the world of insects.

Yes.

It’s what I do. I like getting up close and personal with nature.

A couple years ago I went “primitive”’camping in Big Cypress National Forest for two weeks. When I came out I had to check in at the Ranger’s Station (side story there) which was adjacent to the Tourist center. Based on the looks I got, I was a pretty freighting spectacle....probably smelled lovely also

The other is to hang a pair of funky socks outside your tent. Although I guess it'd also scare away any wildlife you'd wanna photograph, though.

I've been watching a lot of honey/bumblebees recently. My dad's got an apricot and a cherry tree, and there have been a ton of bees. Makes me happy to see.

Unfortunately I had to break out the "big guns" this weekend.

I typically don't like to use pesticides and herbicides, especially since we have dogs. But I found poison ivy in two separate spots in my yard. First time we ever had it.

I wasn't sure, so I picked a leaf and handed it to my son "Here hold this while I look it up on the internet" - Yup! Confirmed poison ivy by the next day!(hahaha ... just kidding)

Jug o' Roundup aught to do the trick.

here is a funny story about poison oak and my mom.

this event, when my mom and I was living in old house in 70's.

I weeding in the backyard behind my swimming pool, where a lot weeds were growing, and I was pulling out them.

I found some poison oak, so I was doing a prank on my mom. I grabbed weeds in my hands. I opened my hands to space out the weeds between my hands, so put my hands outside having weeds inbetween my hands.

without touching with my hands to the stems of poison oak, and the weeds look like dandelions make look like a flower bouquet. it look some pretty and thought my mom.

I brought in the kitchen, where my mom was cooking. so, I gave to her, with the weeds in her hands, not the poison oak.

I told her, " you said i never give anything! ", she was about to sniff the dandelions, and then she said, she look at me ,and the weeds. she really know what do said to me. how often does a son give her mother, weeds as a gift?

I could holding back, I started to laugh, I told her that she holding poison oak, too. she dropped that suck in heartbeat. she was shock for a minute, and looking the bouquet on the kitchen floor. then she started burst out laughing, and then thought it was thought funny.

about five minutes later, she told me get rid it. then, i got the shovel that i had on outside of the kitchen's backdoor's screen.

i used the shovel to pick up the bouquet. i am sorry, i hit my mother with the shovel over the head and buried her in the backyard. we had no more weeds ever again.

( twilite and ex-wife, stella, that's not funny about my mother. )

Don't use Roundup! That s***'s basically cancer in a jug. It's been linked to multiple cases of lung, heart and brain cancer, and not just from the fumes. Farmers who've used Roundup and thoroughly rinsed and flushed their produce still found traces of the s*** in their food. If consumed, it can lead to a whole array of different disorders/diseases, including birth defects and autism.

I don't know if it's the case in Ohio, but Roundup carries a label warning customers that it's a proven carcinogen. You can still buy it, but the people at stores are 'supposed' to warn you about the potential dangers, but not all do.

I didn't see any warnings about cancer. I read the whole label (well, half is in Spanish)- thankfully it's on the 'net in PDF and I can blow it up to see it.

Unless it is assumed to be common knowledge that anything Monsanto makes is carcinogenic.

- I had a string of Christmas lights that had a warning something like: "The State of California requires a warning of the use of a known carcinogen in the making of this product"

... Good thing I don't live in California - I don't want to get cancer!

It's supposed to have warnings about it causing cancer. Unless Monsanto managed to get that overturned somehow.

You can use the lights in Alaska, Hawaii, New Hampshire, hell, take 'em over the border and use them in New Brunswick. No cancer! But the moment you cross into California, BOOM! Tumor City.
