Yes...

“As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.”

Well, the "seedtime and harvest" aside, I suppose the rest of that passage is correct.

Also so from that section of the bible: "Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma.

Actually that is probably a poor translation, it was most likely really And then Noah, the croc hunting dude from the Australia outback, cooked some beef and chicken on the barbie. After smelling the aroma, God got himself a beer and sat down for a delicious meal..."

The industrial revolution hadn't come around then.... so so reference to agriculture was more appropriate.

Yep, they thought offering up sacrifices was the way to please God.

Since we are still on the story of Noah's Ark...

.........

Oddly, if the story were in fact true, it would prove evolution (keeping in mind that evolution is NOT about the creation of life, but rather the change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations over successive generations). But that is probable a different thread.

I would think that everyone (well almost everyone anyway) would agree that evolution does happen.

You might be surprised.

Its been a year or two, but we've had some pretty big discussion about evolution here on TFS.

Granted, typically if not always, at least one person in those discussions didn't seem to know what the word evolution means and/or was actually referring to the cause or source of the formation of life.

I guess Darwin, Wallace and others might have something to do with that. lol

I don't have a problem with evolution.
But when they say we come from fish I feel a headache coming on.

Factoid: Chuck and Al published simultaneously the year before Origins.

Additional Factoid:

While Chuckie had been working on his theory for nearly 20 years, but Al wrote his up 1st...and then sent it to Chuckie for opinion...

...who then said to himself oh s***! oh no! oh hell no!...

...Chuckie then did a quick write-up of his theory...then presented both his theory and Al's to the British Scientific Association of something or other (I forget the title of the organization and am presently too tire to look it up)...

While the theories were essentially the same, some argue that Chuckie did Al wrong (after all, Al did get his written up 1st)...

...others say oh pshaw! Chuckie had clearly been working on his for longer...just didn't publish because he wanted it to be perfect....

...others (mostly christians) say what a load of horse s***!!!

As I understand it (admittedly hear say) Chuck borrowed from Al with impunity.

And ...and each revision of 'Origins' (nearly a dozen) was increasingly Lamarkian while Al maintained the theory humans descended from other species. And ...Chuck did not acknowledge man as descending from other species (possibly because his wife was very religious and controlled the family money) ...not (at least) until 'Decent of Man' (which if you have not read don't bother).

And as a final pedantic factoid: Mendel sent a Chuck a copy of his findings (which supported the theory of evolution) but Chuck never read it or if he did he did not understand it.

And that is all I have to say about that.

David Quammen explains it quite well in his book, The Reluctant Mr. Darwin

Yep, in the same publication even.

Me mate Jock down the road reckons "it's all baloney. We always been fat lazy bastards looking for a cheap thrill"

Got no idea what that's got to do with but if Jock says it then it's got to mean something.

I don’t remember if I asked this, but just to clarify, do you need religion to be a Theist?

Religion is simply a system of thought between God and man (how if at all the humans interact with God), so as long as you have no link there, you can be theist without religion.

Theism assumes that there is a supreme being.

The religious believe/know there is a supreme being and worship it. Worship (if I understand correctly) has something to do with bingo

Am out of my depth here with all this theology & speculation etc. I do have some insight into the contents of the Bible though. It does say somewhere (I am not that familiar with it) that believers should meet to worship BUT that does not necessarily mean church. There is a verse somewhere that says that God will be anywhere there is a group of people worshipping. sadly with religion (whatever one is applicable) there is NO exact science to it. Religion cannot be specified as to exactly what/how etc it is. That is where faith starts which ultimately is the basis for any beliefs.
