Thirty years after its inception, Robocop is still remembered. It was a groundbreaking film in both black humour, dark narrative and distopia.

Now, in 2014, Sony Pictures attempted to remake the film and to my mind, they could have succeeded, but they failed to make Alex Murphy what he should have been - a nocturnal stealth operative.

With his black armour, enhanced vision, speed and strength, plus a jetpack and sumersible gear, Alex could have matched the likes of Sam Fisher from the Splinter Cell games or surpassed him.

Why did the developers of the remake not take this into account?

I am familiar with " tom clancy's splinter cell with sam fisher. I have read about 3 to 4 books about him, I enjoy the series.

I assuming talking about more the uniforms than both sam and alex's missions in life.

I haven't seen the remake of robocop. but, I appreciate the orginal version of robotop. it was a better than a lot of garbage in movie theaters in 80's. I think Robocop was the last stage of what of virgate movies like " dirty harry " series and " death wish " series. that they were good back then.

most remake movies, that doesn't have original cast, usually does fair or flopper. a rare except last two weeks, " it " that was a made for a tv mini-series movie 1990. if I remember watching it, it was three day event on tv. I thought was ok, it was 6 hours along. 2 hours a nights.

it - movie remake broke all box office hits in September. first week, it made 123 millions in three days. the original cast of tv version was well known to movie fans even today. but in remake that cast unknown to people, might been the plus for the movie. that another factor, this summer at movies, was the worst box office summer in 16 years.

I think the producers of any movie remakes has to account for update everything to the movie, make look like it's present day. I think you are right, sam's uniform probably look perfect, this character in the remake.

most producers want to try stay pretty closer to the original format, when the remake.

the answer to your question, it would be overkill.

The remake wasn't edgy but that's partly because we as a culture are more numb to the antics shown in the original movie.
