Will be leaving for Mexico on the 4th- 2 AM. First time going into a different country (other than Canada but that doesn't really count because I practically live there). Plus I turn 14 then. | |

| Don't stray off the beaten (touristy) path.
You could wake up with your head in a duffel bag ... or worse. |

| What part of Mexico?
I have travelled a lot (actually still do) in latin America. From Mexico to Argentina... can't seem to get enough.
I confess that Mexico isn't my favorite... on the other hand, I've never been to a place (anywhere in the world) that I didn't like and/or have a good time... well...with the exception of Iraq...and Kuwait (a true wasteland from my observations).
Anyway.... Mexico... if memory serves, the name of the game in Cancun is Get the Gringos Drunk. Tijuana was a very rough place when I was there...roughly 30 years ago. |

I roamed the streets of Monterrey on a Sunday night ...roughly 20 years ago.
Today, I'd huddle in my hotel room. |

When I was in Iraq, Juarez, Mexico was the most dangerous place in the world...
Under the circumstances I was in, one might forgive me for not taking much solace in that fact. |

It may have been the from Monterrey trip, a local co-worker drove us up to Laredo - through Nuevo Laredo - and he said something to the effect - "If we get in an accident, just head north. Don't wait around."
No, certainly not Iraq. ... just a story (I may have mentioned before) |

But a good story...and oddly (or not oddly) relevant.
As to south of the border... I have a problem in Mexico... her name is Tequila... she comes in many shapes and sizes...light, golden or bronze...young or aged (restful)... I call her la aqua de los dios (the water of the gods)... She loves me... but with her love comes a price... no, not hang-overs (I rarely get them)... but sometimes lost time... and sometimes memories either more vivid than I would prefer, or more foggy than is... safe.... |
