Now Chaski.... you know I don't do violence.

Actually, I rather like your title. "British Museum" can sound soooooooo stuffy.

Perhaps other London landmarks could be re-branded too.

The Flamsteed Observatory could be re-named: That Place At The Top Of The Hill With A Telescope In It.

We also call the Science Museum the Science Museum, and the Natural History Museum is called the Natural History Museum.

We're funny like that.

So Britain really has a museum known as The British Museum? Does it have another name, like maybe a nickname?

Mostly, do we name bridges after people, like Washington or places, like Brooklyn?

Yeah, Mr Golden Gate donated a lot of money to the arts in San Fran ... right?

Do people in Britain call the British Museum the British Museum?

Clara: Have you brought me to a space restaurant!

The Doctor: People never do that, you know.

Clara: Do what?

The Doctor: They never put the word “space” in front of something just because everything’s all sort of hi-tech and future-y. It’s never space restaurant or space champagne or space, you know, hats. It’s just restaurants, champagne or hats, even if this was a restaurant.

...
..
.
Clara: What about space suit?
The Doctor: Pedant.

Not as far as I know.

Some places do have nicknames or their titles are abbreviated. For instance, The Victoria and Albert Museum is often called "The V & A". Buckingham Palace is colloquially known to Londoners as "Buck House".

Twickenham Rugby Stadium is sometimes called "The Cabbage Patch" due to its former use as a market garden where cabbages were grown.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I suppose it does. I know these people who lived in London for a couple of decades, and they don't know about the British Museum. I find that surprising, but I believe they know every detail about British football teams. Seems odd, but it's not illegal, immoral, or fattening, so I guess that is just the way it is.

If only these three things were equal to maturity, intelligence and rational thought, then the USA would on the up swing right now.
