While it is fairly close to the Tower of London, the name (at least partially) comes from the fact that It was built with two bridge towers.

As to the Angles, Britons, Danes, Saxons...

DNA suggests that I and my family before me are probably the classic or prototype Anglo-Saxons...influences of other "races" are virtually non-existent in my DNA.

in st. louis, we have a bridge call " eads bridge " after james eads. if he,the one designed the bridge in 1876.

i remember in high school in 70's, i had write a paper on him. i had to go to the public library, i found in literally a child book had bridges in it. that him in it, this before computers were more available in libraries.

even on microfish ( whatever they called back then ) films on disks, they had nothing on him, not in encyclopedias back then.

most bridges ( i assume )and street names are named after famous people. the people can be local celebrities as well, well known celebrities in history or not.

Good question. I confess to not knowing the answer, so i googled it.

Wikipedia lists a variety of names for bridges in the USA...quite a variety.

there is no " mr .tower " for the explanation why for the name of the bridge.

i have head this explanation for the tower bridge was built from an old episode of " batman ".

Elevation, with dimensions

In the second half of the 19th century, an advertisement in the East End of London led to a hiring for a new river crossing downstream of London Bridge. A traditional fixed bridge at street level could not be built because it would cut off access by sailing ships to the port facilities in the Pool of London, between London Bridge and the Tower of London.
A Special Bridge or Subway Committee was formed in 1877, chaired by Sir Albert Joseph Altman, to find a solution to the river crossing problem. It opened the design of the crossing to public competition.[citation needed] Over 50 designs were submitted, including one from civil engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette. Bazalgette's design was rejected because of a lack of sufficient headroom, and design was not approved until 1884, when it was decided to build a bascule bridge.Sir John Wolfe Barry was appointed engineer with Sir Horace Jones as architect[4] (who was also one of the judges).[5] An Act of Parliament was passed in 1885 authorising the bridge's construction. It specified the opening span must give a clear width of 61 metres (200 ft) and a headroom of 41 metres (135 ft). Construction had to be in a Gothic style.
Barry designed a bascule bridge with two bridge towers built on piers. The central span was split into two equal bascules or leaves, which could be raised to allow river traffic to pass. The two side-spans were suspension bridges, with the suspension rods anchored both at the abutments and through rods contained within the bridge's upper walkways.

American textbooks use the term, British Museum. Like for example, the caption under a picture of a Greek statue might say, Statue of Nike the Goddess of Victory from the British Museum.

The term, British Museum, must mean something different in Britain or the United States, like for example the expression, knock you up.

I wonder about it because I went to school with kids whose parents lived in or near London. Before London, they came from Kenya or Pakistan, mostly.

If I ask them if they have been to the British Museum, they say, "Which one? Britain has lots of museums."

That sounds like the Tower Bridge gets the word, tower, from the Tower of London. Maybe if they had made a tunnel, it would be called the Tower Tunnel.

europe probably has more museums in in different cities more than usa, because or probably there is more history involve that we have in the states.

greece, italy, and france has rich backaround of history that express in arts to tell their history.

in the states, like st. louis, we have " st. louis art museum " that represent arts that come all over the world and art states and other things show the history of st, louis and missouri.

across the ocean, it seem like museums " museum of " or " place of " represent that should be more respect than a simple landmark on a state map.

said " state of " to represent an art piece is out of respect that it should get. that why they do it.

i think tower bridge is different, because the tower bridge is just that car goes over, just like cars that goes over the bridge into the tunnel. see london would call the tunnel " tower tunnel ", because the tunnel is near. both tunnel and bridge can be easy identify as tower bridge and tunnel.

more do easy for drivers on the road to keep the flow of traffic going than to get congestion.

Er.... yes.

We also call the Science Museum the Science Museum, and the Natural History Museum is called the Natural History Museum.

We're funny like that.
