Texas landowners along the Mexican border received letters from Washington recently notifying them of the government’s intent to buy their land to build the border wall. Acquiring the real estate could be the biggest step for President Donald Trump to overcome in his effort to secure the border.

The process could drag out for many years, attorneys told the news outlet.

Yvette Salinas told the Texas Observer that receiving the letter was “scary.” She said she felt pressure to sign it but is moving forward with talking to attorneys about fighting the process. She said the letter asks the property owner to sign away their land and their interest in filing a dispute on the condemnation process.

The Government Accounting Office reports the 2,000-mile border with Mexico is composed of tracts owned by private citizens, various levels of government, and tribal lands. More than 630 miles is owned by various tribes and would require authorization by Congress for the federal government to acquire their land.

And expects this to be decided and done deal , before he leaves office ?? Now that is hilariousness ,,,,this should very entertaining to say the least . swan grabs the popcorn and beer and settles in ,,,,,

He's more delusional then first thought ,,,

One of the tribes in AZ has already been saying no. So that is at least a 75 mile gap.

Texans have a history of putting up a fight for land they think is theirs.

"Trump will enlist the help of 250,000 trained attack dogs, each one tethered to a pole by 1.5m of galvanized steel cord, each pole being spaced 8 feet from one another."

It seems that there are some 'righties' who think that it'll only be 10 feet or so of dirt and all that will be needed for them to do is move their boundary fences .
They don't understand that the government doesn't take 'just what is needed to get by . They will want 10 feet for the fence and 20 more for a right of way and another 20 or so for an access road and then they will want to set up guard towers or something similar every few yards along the way so that will be some more and more and more ,,,
When the government came knocking on my grand dads door in the early 1950's informing him they were putting the new highway right though his ranch , they took about a thousand acres starting from the east side clear though to the west side, slicing off another 500 or so acres from the water . And the sweet part of the whole deal is he was still responsible for the taxes on the part that was covered in blacktop and gavel between the fences that cut up his ranch . and they compensated him for the thousand at 10 cent on the dollar current market value .
He had the choice to take their 10 cent or let them condemn the land and take it without compensating him for it.

I'm kind of hoping Texas secedes from the Union over this.

California, Oregon & Washington will go next...they might drag New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada with them.

Then South Florida will go, and might end up a bit like Singapore or Hong Kong (back in the day)...sort of a city-state international commerce and tourism zone...

At that point I'm pretty sure the NE of the USA would either become a new country or merge with Canada.

Texans have been threatening to secede for decades . But dragging all the rest of us along with them ,, I'm gonna have to think on that for a minute or so .
