I associate certain ideas or thoughts with places entirely unintentionally. There is a map in my mind, when I'm deeply thinking about or pursuing one of these things. Things that are related to each other are close to each other on this map. There seem to be different maps, some are warped versions of places I know in real life and some are entirely fictional. Some are related to what I'm thinking about and others just seem entirely random. Ideas or thoughts that I have that are only slightly similar tend to be on the same map, but the map changes to reflect some of the thoughts in different areas. Different subjects all have their own areas. These places sometimes seem entirely unrelated to my thoughts. I'm not aware of these associations until much much later after I've stopped pursuing or thinking about these things.

I will one day be reminded of one of these things and I can very clearly see a picture in my mind of a place. The picture I have in my mind never changes, and It seems like the viewpoint never moves and is always in the same direction. Sometimes I'm looking at something from one place in the map, sometimes I'm looking down on the map. These maps are entirely lifelike, in that it's hard to tell images of them in my mind apart from memories of real-life.

Sometimes I don't realize that I've made these associations until years later, but they seem extremely clear in my mind, and I know that they've been there. I don't remember making any of these associations and even though at the time that they were made I wasn't aware of them at all, I have this cloudy remembrance that I could see this exact thing at that time. Thinking about moving myself around in these maps helps me remember what I associated the different points with.

It's almost like realizing that you've had a dream after you've forgotten about it.

Is there a word or term for this? Is there somewhere that I can read about it. The more it happens to me the more interested in it I become.

No, I never heard of such a thing.
But it sounds fantastic!

Have you ever woken up in a place that you knew, but not known where you were? You get an entirely new perspective on something that is extremely familiar to you. I used to move around a lot in my sleep as a child. I would wake up in the morning and be facing the other direction on the bed. I could be staring straight at the ceiling and not know where I was. I would get out of bed and for a few seconds not be able to make the connection. I had no idea where I was and everything looked different than it would have had I known where I was. Then I would realize where I was and it would be impossible to get that perspective of a new place back into my mind.

The first time I realized that I was associating places with thoughts or ideas, I was riding in a car and looking out the window. Suddenly I was in a different place, like I had woken up and didn't know where I was. I made the connection that this was a place that I had associated some thought with. Then as the car past this spot I lost that perspective even though I tried to regain it. This is how I first realized that I made these connections.

I wish this would happen more often than it does. It seems like the only time I make these connections is when I'm entirely engulfed in some idea for long periods of time.

You mean sort of like a dejevu? (I think I spelled that right).

Hallucinogenic out-of-body experiences.... dillusional abberations due to mal-nutrition and exposure to bright sunlight for extended prolonged lengths of time. Drifting in and out of consciousness.

And the word(s): d?ja vu! d?ja vu!

Avec l'accent egu! It's been a long time....

It's never like I'm actually in these places, I just have a memory of a scene being associated with a specific thing, idea or project. I've never thought of it as being like d?ja vu at all. It's partially, I just found out, called Jamais vu.

"Often described as the opposite of d?j? vu, jamais vu involves a sense of eeriness and the observer's impression of seeing the situation for the first time, despite rationally knowing that he or she has been in the situation before."

At the time that I experience this I remember that it's been associated with something. I can't remember what's going to happen next like in d?j? vu. It isn't triggered by voices or people but by places. I suppose the memory associations could be entirely fictional. They aren't related to anything I was thinking about at the time.

YES!! The same thing happens to me! I just started my MA a few months ago and it started getting crazier, so I went online to see if I could find anyone else who knows what Im talking about. It good to know that im not crazy, or at least there is someone else with the same thing.

I know what you are talking about, my places are seemingly created out of nowhere, but seem very realistic.

Jamais vu! I've had that - along with the more common deja vu.

... and sometimes the dis-associative "watching the scene" type thing.

Interesting way to visualize thoughts - if it is a place and you can visualize moving around the place (I think OPer said it was always the same POV) could help better understand your thoughts.

My thoughts are just ... thoughts.
I've never thought to observe my thoughts.

I think I had that before. It can be possible since I think a lot and it gets hard to focus on one thing at a time (one reason why college can be a bit difficult for me now).

Well I thought about my thoughts and thought, "Hmmmm....I think those thoughts look like multi-dimensional thought-beings that sometimes vie for control of various multidimensional spaces within our head!"

...

I think.

I think that I just thought that I fell in love with you...or maybe it is the cayenne pepper vodka cocktail that I just invented....

I am so confused these days....

Was that before or after the teaspoon of cinnamon?

.. but think about it - Your thoughts can transverse time and space in the blink of an eye.

One minute your thoughts are about eating bugs in SE Asia this past summer, and the next thought could be about that second time sitting in the tree outside Floydies window, hoping not to tear your blue dress.

it like " dr. strange " can astro plane his body to different place.

the good doctor is mediating in his place and his body stay there, and he project " his astro body " to travel where he want. as his psychical body stays in one place that is unconscious.

Yep, remote viewing....might also be a result of remote memory -->

I think we're sometimes accessing other people's memories on accident and then when we pass by those areas they were in we're struck with deja vu.
