Quote:
Early Thursday morning, a purported Kansas State University student named Desmund Weathers posted two images on Twitter—one of a Snapchat post of a white woman appearing to wear blackface overlaid with the caption, “Feels good to finally be a nigga,” and another of a woman named Paige Shoemaker’s Facebook profile.

“We clearly understand that what was said and done was completely disrespectful,” she wrote, in part, in her Thursday post, since shared more than 1,300 times. “I did want to inform everyone that it was NOT ‘black face,’ but it was a L’Oréal clay facial mask. The signs that were thrown also is an inside joke between our friends that represents ‘West Coast is the best coast.’ We never intended for the picture to offend anyone.”

I wonder what she thinks black face is?

Sigh....

I wouldn't get the pitchforks and torches out - I doubt the woman holds any sincere malice towards non-Caucasians but more-so she was making a stupid joke to her friends.

She just didn't take into account that Twitter posts are publicly available to everyone.

I don't think it was malicious either. Stupid and shortsighted but not necessarily malicious.

I'm not really sure anyone that age who is able to get into college can reasonably claim naivety about the gravity of publicly posting a racial slur either.

I think a person is pretty ignorant to say I'm the least racist person around while actively participating in racial stereotyping. Which I also think is worse than saying.
Yeah, I ducked up. Sorry.

I get that some racial issues are institutionalized and not everyone thinks about all the time. But for f***s sake, when you say or do something offensive, just own it. Don't be a crybaby over it. Just stop doing it or admit you were being bigoted.

Pretty sad!

"Some" may say that what she said afterwards 'was' an apology, though she
didn't come flat out and say "I'm sorry" was an apology. Just sad that
there are so many people who don't think before they speak, and then don't
openly admit when they make a mistake.

this just naïve from a very spoil child that need to grow up, and she need to learn to respect her fellow students, no matter what color they are.

isn't the second or third thread of something stupid like this crap in the last year.

you can't blame the college, who let in. you can. but you blame the parents of the child, depend how the parents are reacting. if the parents are more certain for the child being suspend ( or she kick out and banned the college )than racial comment that she made.

if parents don't care about this act or comment. then there is some wrong this family. or even, if there are human beings?

the sad part for me, that I am not surprise this at all, because somewhat racism is all around all time. this a little off topic, why are kids in college shooting each others, these massage killings in our schools.

I was 13 or 14 years old, when " kent college shooting " in early 70's. during this time, suicide was higher in colleges.

these days, colleges if there are shooting, not about suicides, about religion or something do with iris.

I thought that white college students likes and respect black students more than when they did in 70's, what happening now? a black and white issue still hanging around our colleges these days? or what are there selective white students targeting selective black students in colleges?

why now, at this time?

There's no easy answer.

Maybe everyone should 'walk in someone else's shoes' for a day/week
and see what holds them back from obtaining basic goals.

Preconceived ideas as well as decades of patterns of behavior/actions
are hard to break, or even change (rather then being so rigid thinking).

People need to 'shift' (change) their thinking.

We send our brightest to school. I only hope some of them learn a hell of a lot more so they won't keep doing this type of crap.

Unfortunately, things like that are usually planted in the mind at home long before higher education. Or at least not properly addressed in the home to educate against them. My children have come home with stories from school about this or that Asian or black kid. Even though I don't practice racism within my home, if I remain silent about what they learn outside my home it's just as bad. And it's just as bad on any side of the race line.

I totally understand that.
