Some people just need tipping upside and shaking to see if there's any brains in there at all, don't they

What the hell is the world coming to...

You have to wonder what the HS career counselors were doing while these people were in high school .
It would be interesting to see the look on the faces and hear what the parents ( who are most likely footing the bill for at least part of their law school educations ) have to say when the kid walks in complaining about the trauma of having to discuss violent crimes in their criminal law classes . We are talking Harvard here in the states and Oxford over across the pond , I thinking it takes more then pocket change to get into either of those schools .

It's not off topic . None of the 6 or so articles I read on this topic mentioned the gender of the students , that leads me to think that it's a 'problem' for students of both genders .
I get that some people would have intense reactions to hearing a violent crime being described by a victim of the crime . What I don't get is why would that person choose to go into a profession that is by default involved in and with victims describing violent crimes .

Yeah exactly, this is my view also.
These questions should be asked on interview for a place on the course in my opinion.
When i interviewed for nursing course i was asked on my beliefs on elected miscarriage (i.e abortion) and then asked on how i would treat someone if what they required as with this example elected miscarriage if it was against my beliefs.
needless to say those who didn't give the correct answers were not allowed on the course.

swan - i don't think they have a choice in the matter. because any assault in would in a criminal law.

so these young students have to know the laws about any kind of assault, it would unfair to his or her client. they must learn this.

yes you are correct. That's why I said I would not expect a young person who would have an adverse reaction to hearing a crime described, to choose criminal law as a career .

now, i understand what you mean like a medical student never saw an autrophy before or draw blood that the student get sick or faint.

this apply to both law and medical students.

Thank you. I wasn't sure how the deal worked , I've never stepped foot inside of a university building much less talked to anyone who would be in charge of placing students in the courses relating to their career choice. (It don't take much book learning to push cows around on horse back )
Logic tells me that at some point some one would have sat those wanna be students down and discussed their choices before assigning them their classes though .

By the looks of it the law courses should be just as direct.
otherwise...
You're absolutely right if this is allowed to continue one day they'll be no-one to defend these people. As no-one will of been taught how to.

and hey never knock the school of hard knocks, i'm a veteran also.
and
I bet you're more knowledgeable than the vast majority of all uni students put together.
university/books can never out do what we learn from life.
If anything i believe it stunts your mind as it's very moulding and brainwashing to say the least.

i think i understand now, why law school have mock trials for their students.

they have to learn if they can go to trail. they have learn all different ways to deal with the trails.

they have look up cases to relate their own case. if a student has to be objective in court. so, if the client is guilty, the lawyer has to her or his best to get the client off, even if he or she is guilty.

a student to learn horrors of being a criminal lawyer. as my lawyer , i would my lawyer be grown up and act like a lawyer. if my case is his or her first case in front of a judge.

a mock trials has weed out the students that can't handle pressure and they need to consider whether they want to be a lawyer or not.

My grand dad one of the most intelligent people I've ever had the good fortune to know . He could come up against a problem , he'd sit down mull it over for a few minutes , nod his head ,get up and off we'd go fixing whatever it was that needed fixed. And if he couldn't make what we needed on his forge it couldn't be made .
I only wish I had put more attention to his teaching me while I still had the chance .
He only went to the 8th grade , which was the norm for kids in his day , but he finished 2 1/2 years earlier then the other kids his age and with good marks across the board.

Yeah my dad was the same.
I can now savvy as an electrician, plasterer, painter and decorator and a plumber.
I'm a pretty good cook to.
Without a qualification in any of them.
He left school at 11 and had no qualifications.
Only down side is he's ruined me on finding a good bloke, cause non of them match up to him
He went back to school when he was 40 just to prove to himself he could do it.
He didn't need it he was never out of work.

It was my grand dad who taught me how to make baking powder biscuits in a dutch oven on a camp fire , " biscuits so light and fluffy you have to put a rock on the lid to keep them in the oven " is the way he described his biscuits
As with you I know hoe to do al sorts of jobs that most people today have no clue can be done . I can break down and change out a split rim tire using a handyman jack and the bumper of a pickup . I can build a rock wall , lay a flagstone floor that's level and you wont stub your toe on any part of it. using the forge I can weld a trailer hitch onto a water wagon . I can build a 5 wire barded wire fence from here to there that will pass the specs of the USFS . of course none of these things count for squat in todays world , but hey 50 or 75 years ago I would have been a pretty good catch for a ranchers wife .

Every thing except the split rim tire deal, you could find on google.
Now days spit rims are used only on semi's and to fix a flat they have to have a cage that the tire goes in , because when that split rim pops loose it can and usually does go flying and if you don't duck it can take your head with it . I'm not ashamed to admit that the whole time grand dad was sitting there telling me what to do , I was scared s***less . What taught me to just get in there and do the job at hand was when I was trying to do the job from long distance by stretching my arms out and basically using my fingertips when the jack slipped bounced up and clocked me under the chin . Yuppers I went down like a rock . when the little stars were done flying around my brains and I could stand up . I got ahold of the jack and as my grand dad would say " put my a** behind it " and did exactly what grand dad was telling me to do , there were no more slips and no more stars and we were able to get on with the days work .

Maybe the biscuits wouldn't be on utube because you don't need a bowl
to mix them in , you use the flour sack .
