So...the "facts are"...
The school resource officer stepped into the class, claimed they’d smelled marijuana from the hallway. The investigator picked out Johnson after five minutes of searching the classroom.
> School official smells marijuana in hallway. (It is a fairly distinctive smell.)
> School official searches classroom for 5 minutes.
> School official decides to smell Ms. Jakayla's hands. (I'm wondering if anyone else's hands were smelled and/or if Ms Jakayla seemed to have the aroma of marijuana around her...in which case she could be anyone of 30 or 40 of my friends back in the day...both tokers and non-tokers who hung out with the tokers.)
> School suspends Ms. Jakayla.
I find this entire story more than just a bit odd....
Of all of their students, why would the school target Ms. Jakayla? Because she is "black"? Really? No, sorry, being "black" just isn't good enough in this situation. That school has plenty of black students. They have roughly 432 black students. It is a
Magnet school, as it isn't easy to get accepted in the 1st place. Yet the one student that they target is an innocent black girl sitting in class minding her own business.
We're to believe that the school officials just randomly decided to target some black girl in her foreign language class? There was no smell of marijuana in the hallway? They just picked her out because she is a female black person?
What has she done that makes her such a threat to the school that she is just randomly targeted?
I am actually not sure what we are supposed to believe about this story.
I don't necessarily believe the child. I have children…they are sometimes honest and sometimes they are little liars.
I don't necessarily believe the mother. Many, if not most, parents just can't fathom that
their child can do anything wrong...which is BS.
I also don't necessarily believe the school officials. Bureaucrats are typically nitwits. But, schools systems don't like to open themselves up to law suites either.
This entire news story is missing too many pieces.
the school save face, so they suspended her.
out of sight, out of mind!
