Congrats to Jarryd Hayne. To grow up on league and NEVER play a game of gridiron and then quit the NRL and seek to make it in the nfl was a big call. With bugger all training (and zero match experience) he secured a try out with SF and against all the odds has now made it onto their final squad. To beat out blokes who grew up playing gridiron having never played the game yourself was quite an effort.

Personally i dont understand what the attraction is. He would have more match time involvement in 5 minutes of a league game than in an entire match of the nfl...Still, maybe it's a new challenge. Maybe it's doing something that hasnt been done before. Maybe it's doing something everyone on both sides of the pacific said he wouldnt be able to do. Who knows. Well Jarryd obviously would but anyway...

So whilst i'm still not about to watch any of the nfl (like the vast bulk of Aussies) i do wish him all the best. Again, it's been quite an achievement.

What's going on with english sporting teams? They have by far the the best facilities, the most amount of money, and easily the highest number of professional players and teams in cricket, rugby union and league and yet now their head coach in all three sports is an Aussie!

After appointing an Aussie to coach their cricket and rugby (union) teams england have now appointed Australian Wayne Bennett their new head coach.

Surely there are suitably qualified englishmen to coach their own national teams...

A good win for the eels over Canterbury-Bankstown whilst Easts (aka Sydney) were woeful against North Queensland.

Some really interesting games tomorrow. The Dees and West Sydney are two teams who should improve a fair bit this season with the latter really gunning for a top 8 spot. So will be interesting to see how they go against one another.

The Gold Coast were hammered with injuries last year but have a near full strength list for their opener against the dons. This is a game they really should be winning.

The shinboners play host to the crow eaters. Two teams who played finals last year. I reckon North should get the chocolates.

The final game tomorrow sees Sydney host the pies. The latter now have a midfield that is pretty much the equal of any time but their are question marks over their defence. That said the pies have a good record against the bloods in recent times.

Melbourne not at their best but grinding out the results without Billy.

Brissie and Nth Qld looking strong as expected whilst SB makes a big difference to the bunnies.

After many false dawns maybe 2016 is the year Parra emerge as a genuine power.

Canterbury and Cronulla also looking solid early.

Bit of talk about the G hosting the NRL GF whilst the Olympic stadium undergoes renovations. Personally i hope not. I agree with Bennet. The AFL GF belongs in Melbourne and the NRL GF belongs in Sydney.
