The ticketing system is a disgrace, just taking more and more from the fans each year. Heard a few people going to Eithad last week for the Dogs. The AFL has turned to Americanised trying to squeeze every cent they can from fans and it will come back to bite them on the arse.

I agree. matches are scheduled around tv whilst they try to do as you say and squeeze every last cent from the fans.

If you want to see where things are headed look to the Serie A which sees most teams playing infront of half full stadiums.

It was also telling that the afl said they were prepared to wear 20,000 fewer attending Carlton vs the essendon peptides as a trade off for having higher tv ratings (with the match being played on a sunday night)

Since this latest TV deal the schedule has been all over the shop. If you want to follow the game properly you need Foxtel, a problem for many sports in this country. It used to be a advantage the AFL had over the NRL for example, most AFL games were exclusively free to air, now Foxtel gets all games and less games free to air.

This has had an effect on the equalization they are now talking about. With Twilight games all over the place smaller clubs are banished to Foxtel which gives them limited chance of exposure which limits catching the eye of young fans. Some say prime time slots are for those who perform well but that's a load of s***, Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon will always get their exclusive block busters and time slots regardless of where they finish ladder wise.

If the AFL were fair dinkum about getting the comp equal money wise for other clubs they'd banish the shocking Eithad deal Bulldogs, Saints and Roos got and give them a larger chunk of Friday night games. Instead they try to slog fans for it which I don't agree with.

What are peoples views on variable ticket pricing?

If done right, I think it would be a great idea. Melbourne Vs GWS at the MCG should be cheaper than Collingwood Vs Richmond at the same venue. In fact, I would argue that all Collingwood games should be three or four times more expensive to attend. If you want to barrack for Collingwood, you deserve it

I 100% agree with this. The Friday and Saturday night games should be split more evenly. Yes, the bigger clubs need more games for the sake of the game generally, but we should all get to see our clubs play on free to air, not just followers of the big clubs. Entrenching inequality will ultimately harm the game. Even if they played other teams as delayed replays it would be better than nothing.

True. Unfortunately all they care about is money..and more to the point, making as much of it as they can in the here and now.

Still, at least Wayne Jackson is long gone. If he had his way there would be no footscray, north melbourne or st kilda etc

Personally i thing its simply unacceptable that every team doesnt play every other team twice. How can you possibly have a fair competition where some teams play each other only once whilst others play the same teams twice. It's a joke.

Two really good games of footy today. A top win for the scraggers over richmond whilst Geelong got the chocolates against the pies.

Speaking of the pies we got to watch their new pre game entertainment which started with some strange hip hop nonsense followed by a demonstration on how to hot wire a car and then strip it for parts in under 5 mins.

A truly pathetic effort by the blues who looked like a bottomtwo side playing essenson who looked like a top 4 team. Cetainly think the bombers have the potential to challenge freo and hawthorn for the flag.

"CHILDREN will be banned from playing to win, keeping score and best and fairest awards under Australia-wide changes to junior football developed by the AFL.

Thousands of junior footballers in up to 150 leagues will be forced to play with no scoreboard, ladders or match results under the shake-up designed to promote participation rather than competition.

Footy-loving kids will this year also be barred from representative sides, play on smaller grounds, in smaller teams for less time under changes to be unveiled by the AFL in the next fortnight."

So do you reckon?

World keeps going soft, teachers can't grade kids these days, have a mate who's a teacher and he got told of by principal for marking homework with a red pen because "red is an aggressive color". All for encouraging kids to take part but seriously how much softer can we go on them?
