The vocabulary I learn on TFS

Ad Hominem <---- You should make this your handle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

It is compulsory to attend school for eleven years.

Although a firmly established explanation has not yet been discovered the general theory should be presented in classrooms.

I would have to say that the phenomena is just as important as spelling and arithmetic and warming children up to the peculiar science would save them shock and confusion much later in life.

You are taking the piss. If you understood what a school was, you might be worth something as you would have an education. Instead you jhust type s***. That dont teach that s*** in schools.

Consider me "Kilgore Trout" I'm just passing through dimensions on the way to find my Eldorado.

Along the way I take notes and leave behind advice.

This world isn't mine..nor would I care to have it - Therefor the issues it faces now and will face in the future are none of my concern.

I only stop to lecture and preach as result of dire and agonizing boredom.

According to the Department of Labor
2.8% of the American workforce earns minimum wage or less.

Of that number, half are between 16 and 24 years old.

That leave 1.4% of the wage-earners in the United States as adults who lack the basic motivation to develop marketable job skills.

How many of those have other job skills? You are assuming that all of those adult workers lack motivation to develop marketable job skills. Are there no other explanations at all for an adult to work a minimum wage job? Even when unemployment is so high?

Well, we know that there is no possible way that any of them are for example women who are just getting back into the work force after taking some time off to be stay at home moms, but now want to pursue careers.

And we know that there is no way that any of them are 25 to 30 something years olds that only recently got out of university or the military and are starting at the bottom.

There is no possible way that any of them are educated immigrants who's university degrees in other countries are not accepted here, so they have to get low paying jobs until they can take additional classes and pass certifications courses.... and/or learn english.

It would be impossible for any of them to be formerly employed at what used to be good paying jobs that are now either obsolete or their companies have folded so they now have to start all over again at the bottom.

And they couldn't possibly be the victims of the recent recession that we are only slowly coming out of...

Nope.

They absolutely are unmotivated people that have made bad life choices... there is not other option.

I made NO such assumptions.
Many of that 1.4% are hard-working middle class bread-winners who are working two or three jobs (like I used to) just to stay afloat in today's economy.
Kudos to 'em.

I take umbrage with those whiney few who have never made an attempt to better themselves but somehow believe that they are entitled to higher wages just because they are not enjoying the consequences of their life choices.

Minimum Wage is a child's wage for a child's job.

It was too high at $4.00.

EXACTLY!!!

I have been the woman re-entering the workforce.
I have been the person whose better paying job conflicted with the last course to finish her degree so I temporarily took a minimum wage job so I could finish that degree
I have been the person who decided to get a master's after that and needed very flexible hours so that I could complete an internship (for free by the way) and make it to class, and found that fast food accommodated that well.
I know a woman who was an accountant for the state but had to travel a lot, so when her deadbeat husband took off she quit her job for lack of business trip length childcare (her parents were killed in a car accident the day after we graduated high school). She has looked for another accounting job where she could be home more, but they are not readily available, so she is working retail at the moment.

There are as many stories as there are low wage adult workers

We all have similar stories...
...but since this post is about whinney burger flippers who believe that they should be getting $45 an hour because minimum wage isn't "fair"...one wonders why you are trying so hard to change the subject.

I've been homeless.
I've been hungry.
I've worked for minimum wage.

Not once did I ever take to the streets and protest that an adult should get adult pay even though I was working a child's job.

I wasn't changing the subject. I was a "burger flipper", well actually usually a cashier along side burger flippers during those situations, and supporting a family. YOU asserted that the adult population making minimum wage was too unmotivated to increase their job skills. You asserted it in such a way as to imply that there are not exceptions to your theory. I gave exceptions I knew about personally. Does that prove that there are no lazy adults unwilling or unmotivated to learn job skills? Nope, and I didn't say it did. But you stated, very plainly that the remaining 1.4% were adults unmotivated to learn job skills. Examples to the contrary prove that not all of them are as such.

And what do you want? A pat on the back for having been hungry and homeless before? Do you think that somehow I will throw up my hands and say oh well then you know how it feels and I should just listen to you because whatever you did to fix your situation will absolutely work for everyone else too? No thanks. I've been hungry and homeless before too. I've been a lot of things. No pat on the back for you. Saying you have been there doesn't demonstrate any kind of empathy or understanding. In fact, taking the whole picture of what you say into consideration my guess would be you got help or favorable circumstances you failed to recognize and you patted yourself on the back for having pulled yourself up by your bootstraps.

Here's your cookie for that!

Yea...in a crowd of MILLIONS of shiftless BUMS you've managed to meet two or three exceptions.
Good for you.
I WAS one of the exceptions.
Not once did I EVER suggest, say, or hint that there might not be the odd exception.
Most exceptions don't stay down for long when life kicks them in the teeth.

On the other side of that coin...you know as well as I that for every exception there are 10,000 middle aged stock-boys and burger flippers who have never earned more than minimum wage in their lives.
It's all they've ever aspired to and it galls the piss out of me that they now call for higher wages.

If they want more money they can get off their butts and earn it like the rest of us.

Actually, I disagree. Being someone who has lived in generational poverty and spent her life living among the low income, I know more, many more of your "exceptions" to the rule than I do people who fit your rule. And unless you know these people personally, how do you know how long they have worked that type of job, what they have made in the past, what they have done to better themselves, etc? Or do you just assume that a person that fits a certain description that you see working a minimum wage job also fits your "rule" unless proven otherwise?

And why do you care if they are paid more? You do realize don't you that if they made more, they would draw less in benefits, which is where your taxpayer dollars go, as opposed to their salary, right? You're bitter. Every bit as bitter as you think someone else is. You come across every bit as much of a spoiled entitled brat as anyone who asks for higher wages for jobs you consider unworthy.

I make little more than minimum wage and I guarantee that I am neither a child nor an unskilled laborer. In addition, my job cannot be done by a child or an unskilled laborer.

Well. We're going to just have to accept that as your confession that you are an unmotivated moron making poor life choices.
