A United Nations 2010 chart lists the U.S. as having a murder rate of 5.22 per 100,000 people. The world average homicide rate: 9.63 per 100,000.

And 89 countries have higher murder rates than the United States

To be #1 you would need to live in Honduras.

Probably the most interesting facts in the map are the murder rates in Afghanistan, Egypt, Lybia, Nigeria, India, and Somolia.

News stories about jihadist murders in these countries appear almost daily, so their rates appear low.

Kill more of your fellow citizens. Buy a gun and shot someone. Preferably someone who steps on your property, then you don't have to go to prison.

We, the USA have already tried that.

If it wasn't for the mass murders, our % might fall even lower.

We need learn from some of the other countries in the world and up our religion based killings and make gang violence more lucrative.

I go to school with a boy from Columbia. His parents tell horror stories about life in Colomiba, but I'm still shocked to learn that some parts of Colombia have a murder rate above a 1,000 per 100,000.

If Honduras and the US have the same number of murders, Honduras would still be higher on the list though because it's overall population is much smaller, correct?

I'm sorry that I am so long in responding to this. Due to family issures, I have not been near a comupter for ten days.

As I understand the statistics on the map, the numbers are ratios of the number of murders divided by the population. So if a country has ten times the population of a small country, the large country can have ten times the murders and still have the same ratio as the small country.
